Upgrade Instructions v3.16 & 2004 Yr bug patch

These upgrade instructions will fix the 2004 yr bug by upgrading your L10 Hit Counter to version 3.16. This upgrade will allow you to keep all data from 2003. Only use these instructions if you have v3.12 to v3.15 of the CGI version of the L10 Hit Counter.

1. Download the version 3.16 available here.

2. Unzip your archive. There should be three directories in the archive: cgi, html, and patches.

3. Save your existing L10HC_Admin file. Create a temporary directory on your local machine and download L10HC_Admin.cgi to that directory. Note the extension of the file may be different then .cgi on your web server.

4. Overwrite your existing cgi files on your web server with the new ones in the "cgi" directory from the Zip archive. Do this by uploading the new files using FTP. There will be more files on your web server then in the Zip archive. Leave all existing files on you web server, only overwrite the files found in the Zip archive. The cgi files in the Zip archive have a .cgi extension, your server may require another type of extension. If so change the extensions of the Zip archive cgi files to match your exiting file on your web server.

Do the same with the html files.

Upload the "L10HC_YrPatch.cgi" file to your cgi-bin directory where the L10HC_Admin.cgi file is located.

5. Run L10HC_YrPatch.cgi. Use a browser to run the L10HC_YrPatch.cgi script by navigating to it using your browsers location/address URL input.

You should get a "Patch completed" message. If so your upgrade is complete and the counter will start working normally.

Your If you get an "Internal Server Error" try fixing it using the following steps:

  1. Set the file permissions for L10HC_YrPatch.cgi to execute (e.g. 755). Use your FTP or Telnet program to chmod the permissions so the script can execute.
  2. Verify that the path to perl which is the first line of the script matches that used in the L10HC_Admin.cgi file that you downloaded in step 3.
  3. Verify that the extension, e.g. .cgi, matches the extension of the L10HC_Admin.xxx file that you downloaded in step 3.
If you cannot get the patch to run you can just wait. Version 3.16 will patch itself when the end of day reports are run.

Note: while the above method will patch your system for 2004 and the following years, certain types of data from the beginning of 1/1/2004 till the patch is applied will be lost. All data from 2003 is kept.
