In this Months Newsletter...
A Quick Word
Welcome to this months Interspire newsletter. ArticleLive PHP has been progressing nicely (see Mitch's blog) and Chris and I have begun development of a new product, marketing related, but that's all I can say for now. Keep an eye out!
I've taken some time this month to write a couple of CSS and Javascript articles. Hopefully they'll help you build more elegant sites and user interfaces. I'll be writing more articles on how to improve both web sites and user interfaces with CSS, DHTML and Javascript for the upcoming newsletters, so stay tuned in the next few months.
Finally, there's a few more templates for you to download, as well as some interesting blogs from other staff members. So... keep reading, have fun, and feel free to email me if you have any questions, comments or feedback!

Have you seen the web site, logo and newsletter templates on our web site? Each week we release new templates which you can download, and use in projects for your clients:
Using Inline Javascript Form Validation
"Javascript alert boxes have long been used for validating HTML forms. For example, if you forget to type your name into a contact form, then a Javascript alert pops up telling you about your error and how to correct it. While this is a lot better than no warning message or validation at all, I find alert messages quite annoying, ugly and outdated..."

Building a Mouse-Over Menu Using CSS
"I remember when I started building web sites. Creating dynamic menu's meant creating a series of images: one for the static image, one for the mouse-over image, and at times a separate image for when a click occurred. After this, I piled on the JavaScript to preload the mouse over images and change the images, depending on which menu button had the mouse cursor over it. Phew! It was a lot of work..."

Does My Workload Ever End? (By Mitch)
"Quite simply, no, it doesn't. Not many of you will know this, but I'm leading development of ArticleLive 2005 (yes, the PHP version will be released as 2005 and the .NET version will have an updated released as 2005)..."

SiteCenter Template Repository (By Joe)
"What's a repository? Well, I summoned the google define: feature and found a few humourous outcomes...
1. a facility where things can be deposited for storage or safekeeping.
2. a person to whom a secret is entrusted
3. a burial vault (usually for some famous person) .. what the?!!..."

Multi-Database Development (By Chris)
"The new application we're working on is going to be a little different than most of the others. As Mitch mentioned before, it's more on the marketing side of things which is different for us. It's coming along in bits and pieces and coming together nicely. We've pretty much got one section done, now we're onto the second section (there are about 4 distinct areas we have to complete)..."

ASP vs. ASP.NET (By John)
"There's a lot of debate on which is the best web development language/technology and the truth is that there is no simple answer. But I will say that while leading development of both the ASP and ASP.NET version of ActiveKB at the same time I've noticed a HUGE difference. It's taken about 3 or 4 times longer to build the control panel for the ASP version than it did for the ASP.NET version..."

Keep Smiling, and Bye for Now
That marks the end of our newsletter for September. Thanks for reading, and as Tony Barlow (Sale of the Century, Australia) would say "Keep smiling, and bye for now!" - God only knows why I still remember this :)
Until then, I'll catch
you in the forums...
