Common questions and answers B

I heard calcium contains lead levels which are harmful; is this true? - The September 20, 2000 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that substancial quantities of lead have been found in some over-the-counter calcium supplements. Out of the 23 over-the-counter products tested, 15 showed detectable lead levels. Of natural calcium products, those derived from ancient marine calcareaous deposits, like oyster shell beds, "inevitably contain lead", says the study. Therefore, Calmax
calcium supplements derived from oyster shells or other underwater sea-beds (normally calcium citrate and carbonate forms) can contain toxic levels of lead. CalMax is not derived from oyster shells or underwater sources. Additionally, CalMax was independently tested for lead content which revealed that CalMax contained no significant amount of lead in its calcium.
