HAWAII
SPECTACULAR OAHU

Waikiki was once a favourite playground and retreat for the Ali'i,
the royal class of Hawaiian people. Today, Waikiki with its famous white sand beach
and its reef protected waters, serve as an international playground for every type of traveller.

Ala Wai Yacht Harbour is home to an armada of
pleasure boats in which some of Oahu's exclusive residents
use the trade winds and the Pacific Ocean as their vast playground.

Diamond Head Crater is one of the world's most famous landmarks.
Its name originates from a group of British sailors, who in the 1800's
thought they had struck it rich when they found what they thought to be
diamonds sparkling in the sun all over its crater walls. Later, these stones were
found to be a type of calcite crystal that was worthless, however the name stuck.

Built in the early 1900's, the Mormon Temple with its
dramatic reflecting pool and beautiful white architecture set against
the Ko'olau Mountains, continues to draw tourists by the thousands.

Nestled in the cliff face high above the ocean on Oahu's easternmost
point is the lighthouse of Makapu'u point. When it was first built in 1909, the
lighthouse was said to have the world's largest lens. The beam of light could be
seen over twenty-eight miles out at sea. Quite fittingly, Makapu'u means, "bulging eyes".

The sea's constant erosion to a side of an extinct volcanic crater formed
one of the world's most unique underwater marine sanctuaries, Hanauma Bay.
The coral reef that stretches across the entire bay is alive with tropical fish. People
travel from all over to experience the underwater wonders of these crystal clear blue waters.

Honolulu meaning, "sheltered bay," is the most exotic city in Hawaii and America!
Its deep natural harbour, along with its central Pacific location, have transformed
this essential port-of-call into a bustling cosmopolitan international city.
People have come from throughout their Pacific region to make this capital city of
Hawaii their home. It's a diverse city of many cultures and races, with no ethnic majority.

Once the sun sets, few sights are as beautiful and breathtaking
as the Waikiki skyline. The city lights illuminate life throughout the night.
Aloha!
