Mini guide to Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca, or White Coast is recognised as one of the highlights of Spain. It is much more laid back than the many busier sunshine spots and is very suitable for a family orientated holiday. Its beaches and landscapes and the pleasant waters make it an ideal place for swimming and fishing. Its mild climate means sports like squash, tennis and golf can be practised all year round.
Torrevieja is the cultural heart of the Costa Blanca. It is a vibrant town and port in the southern part of the Valencian community and is surrounded by two large natural lagoons which form the well known Salterns of Torrevieja -considered the biggest in Europe. It has easy access to the Mediterranean motorway and is close to both the provincial capital Alicante and San Javier (Murcia).
Torrevieja is a first class tourist centre. There are magnificent sandy beaches, squares, avenues, esplanades, parks, gardens and protected nature reserves which are recognised internationally as being of great ecological value.
In Torrevieja, the facilities and natural conditions for water sports are excellent. Particularly of note are the Real Club Nautico and the Puerto Deportivo Marina Internacional, in which there are more than 1500 high quality moorings. Surrounding Torrevieja there are five golf courses, where national and international championships are regularly held.
