Frequently Asked Questions – Patients & Visitors When out-of-town patients must stay overnight or longer, their families frequently need a place to stay. We know how many issues patient families must consider; that's why we provide the following list of nearby accommodations--some which offer discounts to patient families. The following hotels offer discounts for our patients' families:
The Lewis Rathbun Center provides housing, kitchen, and laundry facilities for patient families and patients living outside Buncombe County. This facility is available at no charge to patients and their families, only by referral from a hospital physician, social workers, or chaplain. However, the center is funded strictly through gifts, so donations are requested. This 27,000-square-foot facility--often called a haven and a place to bond with others in similar circumstances--is operated on a first come, first serve basis. Stays may be limited due to the demand for rooms. Twenty-five rooms--each accommodating up to four people and complete with full baths--are available. Handicapped rooms are also available. Free shuttle service to and from the hospital is provided on a set schedule. Day rooms are also available for those who need a rest, a getaway, or a shower.
