Goethe wrote: ”To have seen Italy without seeing Sicily is not having seen Italy at all – for Sicily is the key to everything”. Because there are a lot of Sicilies corrisponding the different aspects of Italy. There is the exclusive “dolce vita” of Taormina, Mondello and so on; there is the sacred Sicily with its places of worship such as the Madonna delle Lacrime in Siracusa; there is ancient Sicily such as the temples of Agrigento, Siracusa, Taormina; there is the fertile Sicily with the “Conca d’Oro”. Sicily is also the largest island in the Mediterranean sea, the mother of the other islands, Eolie and Egadi, Lampedusa and Pantelleria.
