I think U have a great site here.. I've been visiting it daily & plan to continue. We have good sites here in N.E. but with a lot less participation. I wish this site was closer to home but nevertheless, will participate as well. Thank U & keep up the good work!!! roger

Roger, man, another guy with excellent taste in web sites! ;^) Hey, how would you like us to make you feel more at home? We're all ears, shoot us an email at suggestions@stripersonline.com and we'll do what we can to make you feel like we are closer to your home!

Hope you are having fun fishing this weekend! Catch a BIG ONE!! Shell

Shell, had a good time, but the BIG ONE had one too many tricks up it's sleeve and I had to settle for just lots of nice ones! (**Note: Shell is my sister, Michelle...whom I love very much)

Great site, would luv to hook up with some fellow striper hounds! I've been fishing the salt for many years now and know a trick or too. I fish mainly for Striped bass from Cape Cod ,Ma to Cape Hatteras in Dec - I follow em up and down the East coast!

Dennis, yea, you sound like "one of the guys", chasing the stripers up and down the coast....doesn't that make you a "Striper-Head"? ;^)

I liked your web site. I'm not an experienced fisherman like you. Someday I would like to be. I will continue to read your website so I can learn. I like the humor. I tried to look at the pictures but they wouldn't come up on my screen.

Michael, sorry about the pictures not coming up on your screen, it might have to do with the JAVA buttons on those pages. We're removing them shortly and replacing them with plain old buttons, you should be able to see the pictures then!

Hey guys, just wanted to congratulate you on a great website. I am a novice to surf fishing having moved to Belmar about 6 months ago, and making the switch from fresh to saltwater. Needless to say I am now addicted!!! Thanks for all the info as it has helped me learn more about catching stripers from the surf. The pics sure have helped me set some goals!!!! If anyone has any tips, links, info, or know of any clubs out there to help a newbie please e mail me at obrienc1@yahoo.com. Hope to see you near the 2nd Ave pier!!! Thanks again for all the help, and remember leave only foot prints!!!

Chris, thanks for stopping by, I'm sure I'll run into you in some of those footprints in Belmar this fall, I leave a lot of them in that area come October/November! ;^)

Already caught about 200 stripers up here near a warm water discarge. All small guys but that is a good sign. Berkley Power Grubs are working best.

Thanks,

John, no sweat, we encourage everyone to pick up any discarded line left around by both slobs and just plain careless folks. That goes for any garbage you come across, if ya got a free hand, picking it up is a big help! If you carried it in, carry it out, it's even lighter now that it's likely empty! ;^) Thanks for checkin' in, see ya around!

Got your site from jmusial and he really did me a favor. I just started to look you over today 5-4-00 and like what I see. My problem is I am living down in FL. and really miss the striper. The second week of June I'll be up on the cape and cant wait. I will have a few days to fish Jersey but will be down in the Cape May area. If any one gets back to me that fly fishes that area I'll be sure to meet them. Any body comming south give me a shout and I'll try to get you out in my boat for some flats fishing. Wish I could be up there for you trip on the 15th but cant make it. Keep up the good site. CATCH EM

i like the site.especially the fact that you can get reports about areas that i actually fish, not texas and maryland.i love to fish the raritan bay.in my hole life i caught 1 striper it was 8 inches and my lure was as big as it and i caught it in the deleware river.i was hoping to get some insight from people who no how to surf fish for them.hopefully the gents here wont snub a novice to the sport.my hole goal for this summer is to catch 1 legal striper first to break the ice then move on from there.if anyone who reads this wants to help out a fellow fisherman tell me where to go,when is the best time, what should the weather be like ,if i should fish the incoming or outgoing tide and ofcourse what to use.if anyone can hook me up with a hotspot. please let me no at cheggymaster@aol.com.also when is there people in the chatroom i can really get into a deep chat but i cant do it alone..your fellow fisherman..matthew

As someone who only recently moved to New york from the Chicago area I am clueless about Striper fishing. I did a lot of steelhead fishing back in the midwest and love catching big fish. Your website is very informative and I believe it will be invaluable to me in my quest for the elusive Striper. My thanks for a great place to learn what I need to make my fishing more successful as well as more enjoyable. Tigh Lines.

Spent most of my life in NJ-retired and moved to Cape Cod for the fishing. This year has been awful and there are very few bass being caught. Too cold and too much rain. That ought to change soon and we will be crawling with Stripers. I just got the computer a couple weeks ago and soneone gave me your website. I think you are doing a great job. I check in here every day because of the fact that I used to live in the area(Bay Head). I would come to your Spring Fling but I have already invited some fishing pals from Albany to the Cape for that weekend. If you would give me your business address I would like yo visit you when I next visit NJ. I do a little jig-making and fly-tying here on the Cape and I like your ideas. I have a few of my own I would like to discuss with you. Silverdoc27@cs.com

Hello All, Stopped by ... alerted by a fellow member of WorldWideAngler (WWA) that you had a top quality site here, and he was right! Although my vehicle is tagged for Delaware Beaches, I have to admit I spend 99.9% of my fishing time on my boat in the Chesapeake Bay, hauling them in. I like to learn & share info, so I'll be back!

Bullshark, welcome! Send my regards to your buddy at WWA for sending ya over! Thanks for the kind words, it's always nice to hear that things are looking good from your end. Don't sweat the boat thing...it's kinda like a moped...we all did it...we just don't talk about it! ;^) Remember...when speaking of boat caught fish, the formula for actual weight is (Scale weight / 3 ) - (weight of the bait) = Surf Caught Weight or Actual Weight  I'm kidding of course....it's really only divided by 2! ;^) Thanks for stopping by, we look forward to seeing ya around!

Great site Tim, keep up the good work, read it daily and want to know when your going to send some of those stripers this away!!!!!!! Was down fishing the Cape last Thursday and nothing happening yet, water is still cold and not much bait around. But "the fish will come" as I always say. Best of luck to you in the coming season.

Jules....I dunno...I've been pointing 'em that way for 3 weeks now, you mean they're not making it all the way up there?!?! I'll have to "launch" them a little harder I guess! It's favor I return to all my northern brethren in the spring...cause in the fall, I ask them to point a few this way! I'll have a little talk with the next batch of stripers I run into and see if I can figger out what's keeping them from going up there!  Thanks for stopping by and good luck to you as well!

A guy at work told me about your site today. So this is my first visit. I am impressed and will be a frequent visitor.

As an aside, what's the best fly for weakfish? I ask as I am new to salt water fly fishing.

Thanks.

Dave, hey, thank your buddy at work for me! :) I'm looking forward to seeing you around...and your bud from work! As to weakfish flies, I've done best during the day with silicone spearing and small slab flies. At night, long yellow hackle deceivers, long yellow clousers, yellow or chartreuse half and halfs...and silicone spearing and slab flies. Charlie and I had our best weakfishing last year April 29-May 3....all over 4#'s...some over 6#'s...and these were weighed, not estimated! Weakfish weigh about 1/2 what they look like they should weigh, people would be shocked if they weighed a few! All those fish ate medium to large slab flies fished on an intermediate line on the inside of Sandy Hook....and on an incoming tide!

Tim, I have finally gotten off my behind and jumped in on the Surf Talk. I have gotten in on a couple of the topics and, I'm still learning my way around, but I gotta say that I am very impressed. I'm not surprised though, I've known you long enough by now to expect no less than quality in every thing you put your hand too, I am impressed.

I have really gotten a charge out of going back and reading comments from some of the friends I made er, uh, that OTHER place. Had loads of fun there. The truth is that a place is just a place...it's THE PEOPLE that make it great. The people are here now, and with your great format and styyyyle, we just can't lose. I also notice that you have enlisted the services of Mike and John and that just about covers all the bases.

All your features are just terrific! No one has ever accused me of being a computer genius or an expert on the internet but I've dinked around a little and I have never seen anything close to the elaborate, complete, feature packed site as this little baby right here. I can't wait till I've seen it all.

I'll try to be a little more consistent in the future...I feel like, well, like I'm home now....W. J.

Walkin' Jack...it just wasn't complete, my friend, until you showed up. Your words were missed and I am sincerely happy to have you back online and proud to have you here! I couldn't agree more, it's the fine folks that call this place home that make it what it is....I've only provided them a place to hang their spurs, they've done all the rest! ;^) Welcome back my friend, let me know if there's anything I can do for you.

I agree catch and release is the way to go. After all we are there to have fun not to kill. Craigers

Craig, yessir, there's a time to release and a time to kill, 99.9% of the time we recommend the former as opposed to the latter. It's ok to bring one home for the table when you need to, but the future of the fishery depends on us all setting an example....as well as pressuring the commercial pillagers every chance we get! I was with Crazy Alberto at "disneyland" over the weekend. I had to get my 7 year old son tied up with a couple of those unrealistics. I will be checking back regularly.

Hans, sadly, I did not make the venture to Dixie to meet you...but I'm sure we'll be able to rectify that in the near future...Alberto's funny like that! ;^) I'm equally glad that your son got "bit" at Disneyland....that is certainly something, that place! Tim - Like the site. My bookmarks got wiped out on my computer late last fall and with the striper season about to start up again it took me a while to find your site. I lost the page for that "other" site and I can't even remember the name of it anyway, but in the fall you were about to start your own page and glad to see that you did it - unfortunately it wasn't easy to find - one of the links from Bassdozer that has a link to your site has not been updated. Last year was my first fishing for Stripers, (didn't catch any) but hoping to learn and catch more this year.

Happy Birthday! Once again you have amazed me with what you have accomplished in such a short time. Your energy and passion for this site is duly noted and appreciated. It's great to be able to log on to a message board and not find a bunch of hammerheads throwing sinkers at each other.

Be Well Prefessa

Prefessa, why thank you for the birthday wishes, you shouldn't have! ;)  Hey, I do what I can around here, the rest of the credit goes to exactly those folks you are referring to...they are the reason why this place is quickly becoming the surf fishing site! I am well pleased with all of them, your self included...thanks!

I mostly fish the Somers Point area, mainly the RT52 bridges, Rainbow Channel. Coming down 3/25 for one of our marathons to see what's happening. Eager to check the water temp. as I can't find any sites that report on the backbays. I haven't surfed your site yet, but I'm sure it's good. I was referred to this site by Jason Coppola. I'll post a report when we get back, talk to you later.

Dan, those areas are a little beyond my self imposed southern limit, but there's a whole bunch of guys here that fish down that way!  I'm looking forward to your reports!

Wellll... been berry, berry busy. Haven't been able to fish since Thanksgiving because of the toro-caca flying lately, but did see Big Dave haul in a 26# red last weekend North of Galveston. Casting tournament this weekend in Corpus. Will be getting a PC for the house soon and be back in the swing of things in a month. Ditch Jigger - e-mail me. Just haven't been cruising the sites lately from work. Cheers, BB

BB, sorry to hear about the toro-caca flying around lately but glad to hear you'll be back to normal shortly! I doubt DJ reads the guest book, I'll let him know you're looking for him! He's always around on SurfTalk if you wanna bend his ear a bit!

About those Lex plugs. Now u know Tony Spina never went fishing for the last 20yrs so how would he know what the Stripers are hitting???? I taught him all he ever knew back in the 50s.

Striperfev, what is it with the taunts about Tony...I've been removing them but I guess you want to be addressed here in public, I'll do my best. Tony does fish, I've fished with him many, many times. Even if he didn't, which God willing, won't be any time soon, he has about 20 of best striper guys I know who use his plugs all the time and report back to him exactly what they think...and that number is growing fast!  This guest book doesn't get responded to by me very frequently, if you'd like to have a debate on Lex Lures, Tony, or any other thing that is currently on your mind, stop by SurfTalk and we'll see what kinda credibility you have to back up your consistently negative guest book entries...or shoot me an email at tims@stripersonline.com and we'll go over it mono a mono. Thanks for stopping by.

JJ, I think it's 12"...but you might want to pick up a copy of the NJ Fish and Game laws the next time you're in a tackle shop...they have lots of rules, and the largemouth season closes or is reduced from around April 1 to June 1 while the big bass make little bass! ;)

Glade that my brother-in-law directed me to your site ... I used to be a big fan of "the other striper site" but they seem to have gotten more into the selling end of the game then the information end i know there's more money in the selling end but giving the fisherman the right.. up-to-date info will always generate business I know in the early days of "the other striper site" i spent a lot of money with them but in resent months have been looking for info elsewhere and now finding you guys is very refreshing you will do very well if you remember your roots... thanks again for your site

Rich Allen

Rich, heck, they aren't just my roots...they are my promise to all the guys here! Yes, stuff will be sold...only stuff we use around here, no flashy hi markup stuff that has never seen the end of our lines...just stuff we use. Stuff has to be sold, while I love to share about the ways of our quarry...gotta pay da' bills as well!  Looking forward to running into you around here in the near future!

Your site is a great diversion from cabin fever. Rumor has it springlike weather is a week away - always hope. I am happy to see your focus on conservation - I remember years ago pulling a bass out of WestEnd II surf from among the blues and having 20 guys come over just to look at it - it was that rare. Let's not let that happen again!

Peter, I couldn't agree more on the conservation...unfortunately, if the netters and commercial fishermen are not forced to be accountable for the millions of pounds they kill, we may just see those sad days again. Let's not let that happen!

see ya all on the water

I hear ya, there ain't much time left! The bass will be knocking down the doors in just weeks! It seems like they were just here (still are most likely!) and they will be back panting as soon as the water starts to get near that magic 50 degree mark. (Even 2 months is really only weeks ;^))

Hello Tim,

Read some of your writing and am impressed. Keep it up and good luck. I had my best year ever and am looking forward to honing my skills with each passing season. I fell in love with my Diawa Emblem Z 3000iA with 8lb test matched up with a 7ft Fenwick Techna AV rod. Had fish up to 28 this year and had two larger fish this year that I lost at my feet. The Bayshore was hot for me this year as well as North beach. Not too many folks in Sandy Hook as usual this year and I didn't see your smiling face on the beach up here?

Take care.

D.J.

DJ, how nice of you to swing by ;^) Yea, I didn't bump into you this year, even though we were haunting some of the same spots...maybe next year....sooner if the wives decide we need to see each other! Stop inside, join the guys in there...an awful lot of them fish the same spots as you, I'm sure you'd recognize a few of them! Anyway, I'm glad to hear you had a killer year, you were certainly in the right spot! You still playin' with the fly rod at all? :)

Hi I am J.J. from Mrs. Surgent's class. I am visiting your site. I want to learn more about striper fishing! I have tons of books about stripers and I do what the books say, but I can't seem to get stripers to bite!

J.J.

Hi JJ, Mrs. Surgent told me you would be stopping by! Thank you for adding to the guest book here, we need more young striper guys like you to carry on when we get too tired to fish anymore! The best suggestion I can give you for getting them to bite is to fish with an adult who knows of thier ways and will show you! Maybe your dad or an uncle...a family friend...there must be somebody! If you can find an adult that will take you, I would be glad to give them lots of pointers and maybe even meet you guys out there some time and see if we can't catch you a striper! Say hi too Mrs. Surgent for me :)

Hi Tim: This is my first entry into the guest book since you switched over to StripersOnline. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the site and the new goodies you keep coming up with. I envy your imagination and your ability to keep coming up with new stuff for the main page on a daily basis. Man can you talk :)

Keep up the good work.

JimK

Jim, I have gotten more than a few responses to your "Man, can you talk"!  None of them negative, but still funny! Thanks for the encouragement, it does get a little difficult to fill a page with stuff anyone would care to read when the fish aren't here!?!?!  It's cake when I can fill 3/4 of the page with the who, what, when and where of our striped friends, but in their absence, I have been forced to become creative! :)  Looking forward to spring, long rods, and long walks...you know the place ;^)
