Governor Meets USCG Crew
Photo archive: Governor Frank H. Murkowski thanked members of U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crews for their role in high-risk rescue operations associated with the freighter Selendang Ayu's grounding near Dutch Harbor on Dec. 8. During their nearly hour-long visit on Jan. 12, the Coast Guardsmen shared details of the night, in which a first helicopter crashed while rescuing crewmen from the grounded freighter, and a second helicopter saved the first copter’s crew and some passengers. Those meeting the governor were (L-R) PO2 Brian Lickfield, an H-60 flight mechanic; Lt. Dave Neel, an H-60 pilot; Lt. Doug Watson, an H-60 pilot; PO3 Gregory Gibbons, an H-60 hoist operator; Lt. Governor Loren Leman; and Rear Adm. James C. Olson, commander of the 17th Coast Guard District. Enlarge >
