All anglers who have fished with Capt. Jeff  have the opportunity to comment about their trip. After you fish with Capt. Jeff, you'll be given the password to make your entry.

"I'm that confident that you'll have a great time!"

Hawaii fishing flags: Mahi Mahi (Dolfin fish), Kahala (Amberjack), Shark, Marlin, Ono (Wahoo) and Ahi (Yellowfin, Bigeye and Albacore tuna)

Capt. Jeff gave us a great day. We pulled in a nice amberjack and a shark, and enjoyed his stories. The thing I liked best about him is that he was honest and up-front (and cheerful, which you don't always find on these fishing tours).

Take advantage of all the useful information he has on his site... especially about preventing sea sickness. We followed his advice and none of us even had a hint of nausea.

What isn't mentioned too much on the site is all the sea life you can encounter out there. We saw a group of pilot whales, some turtles, humpbacks, and all sorts of ocean critters.

Thanks for a great time. We will be back!!

If you’re looking to have fun ‘catching’ fish, big fish, and really don’t care what kind other than big, Captain Jeff is your man! We were expecting less and got way more than we bargained for.
Fishing on the Dream Catcher December 15 on a full day charter, we landed a mahi mahi and a small yellow fin tuna for the table, missed another mahi mahi, two barracuda, and a hungry dolphin, and caught and released a 500 lbs dusky shark and a +750 lbs tiger shark all on stand up tackle.
I recommend not cutting yourself short with less than a full day charter. You won’t regret it. Bring film, lots of film, and a camera that takes movies. After this experience we now qualify to fight fish on the Mega Bites! Thank you, Captain Jeff, for the memories and see you next time we’re in Hawaii. No doubt about it!

Another GREAT trip with Capt Jeff -- we caught four little Frigate Mackeral and two nice-sized Mahi-mahi. Free fighting that 28-pounder took almost as much out of me as fighting the 13-foot Tiger Shark my previous trip with Jeff. Jeff is a consumate professional...and a nice guy to boot! If you haven't fished with him, you've missed a great experience. With Jeff you don't go fishing, you go catching!

Aloha, this was our 2nd time on the Big Island (2003 also) and fishing with Capt. Jeff again of course. This year we had 6 great days. My wife and I have fished in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Mauritius, but Kona with Capt. Jeff is the nr.1 for us. We've some nice video and you can watch them here and on my website very soon. Jumping Blue Marlin (awesome video), fighting Amberjacks and even a rescue operation of a world record Almaco jack (instead of killing and bring him/her in and apply for the record!). All the fish we caught, we did with stand-up gear. Believe me, this is really fun to do. It’s even better than an afternoon doing workouts at the gym. If you want to catch fish and have a great time off the Kona coast, look no further and book a charter with Capt. Jeff.
We’ll be back next year September, that’s for sure.
Mahalo Capt. Jeff, tight lines!

My son, Brian, and I had a great day of fishing with Capt. Jeff. on October 12th. We caught three amberjacks and had a couple of hits on the marlin rods during our full day trip. We had some great discussions with Capt. Jeff comparing our Alaskan techinques to the fishing style of Kona and the time seemed to pass much too quickly. Capt. Jeff is very innovative and works extremely hard to improve his techniques and our results. We were fishing with a lure that he developed and we were testing. You can't beat that. Will I go again? You bet; everytime I'm in Kona.

I fished off Kona with Captain Jeff on September 14, 2004. We caught a very challenging 80 lb. 55 inch long Amber Jack, and another 35 lb. Amber Jack using live bait that we had caught going out to sea off Kona. I had a great time, not just catching my largest fish ever, but I also learned more about fishing from Captain Jeff. The Captain is a very personable guy who loves to fish and chat with people. I will do my best to get back to Kona again, just to fish with Captain Jeff. My all-day charter far exceeded my expectations. I feel like I'll be keeping Captain Jeff and memories of that deep-sea Kona fishing in my memory banks for a lifetime. Don't hesitate to book with Captain Jeff. He makes it a totally great experience.

This was my first time big game fishing and I had no idea what to expect or which boat and captain to choose. After viewing captain Jeff's extremly informative website I decided to take a 3/4 day on the Ocean reef. This was the best time I've had in years! I caught and released a Marlin, kept 2 Otaru and a 97 pound Amberjack that I fought for half and hour! I actually wanted to head in early after all the action! Captain Jeff tried his best to make sure I caught fish, and as you can see in the photos I did. If you are going to go all the way to Kona to fish you might as well fish with best! I'll be back this winter.

Had a great day on the water with Capt. Jeff. He worked non-stop start to finish to make sure that we had a good fishing experiance. Had a good battle with a 75lb Amberjack and my 10 year old had a blast catching the SkipJack Tuna that we used for bait. We were looking forward to a couple of more hook-ups but Flipper and his friends had other ideas and kept stealing our bait.I would highly recommend a day of fishing with Capt. Jeff on the Ocean Reef. Thanx again Jeff, see you next time.... Brandon and Randy

Captain Jeff:
Many thanks for the fun day we had fishing with you.
David and Dalton are still talking about it, as one of the highlights of our Hawaii vacation.
They couldn't wait to check-out your webpage with the catch pictures.

Happy father's day!
Dan Cooper

P.S.: Ciguaterra is not seen in Florida as far as I know neither with amberjack nor with red snapper ( according to Genesis Health System of Florida, only barracuda has been implicated here in Florida, and therefore doesn't create a public health hazard). Most health reports come from the Pacific Islands.

I was planning a surprise for my husband, David's, 50th birthday, and wanted to send him sport fishing off the Kona coast. He loves to fish and this has been a dream of his. After extensive research on line, I choose Captian Jeff Rogers (and Bob) and the boat the Grandslam. It was an excellent choice. My reason for choosing Capt. Rogers, was his friendliness and wealth of information. He was nice but professional... And I e-mailed him A LOT before deciding... He never once lost his cool. This turned out to be a great thing. I flew my husband's best friend over to the islands (while our family was vacationing there for spring break) and the two of them met Captian Jeff and the rest is history. Ten minutes out of the harbor, my husband, Dave, hooked a huge 700 pound marlin!!!...and the fight was on. Needless to say it was a day my husband will never forget, and the kindness of Capt. Roger's and the boat owner Bob, was fantastic and much appreciated. Next time i am going to give it a try myself... The boys said they would not have changed a thing... everything was perfectly as it should've been and a wonderful birthday surprise for my husband... Big thanks to Captian Jeff Rogers for all of his help and guidance.

We were a party of four who booked a deep sea fishing adventure with Captain Jeff as an independent shore excursion for the single day that our cruise ship was in port in Kona. We began our research a full year in advance and were attracted to Captain Jeff's services because of the depth of information he made available on his web page. We wanted a quality experience and would have been content just to be "on the water," but Captain Jeff surpassed our expectations. We fished aboard the "Carnivore." The vessle was immaculately maintained and well outfitted with quality tackle. I have fished in many charter situations in which the tackle may have started out as "quality" but degraded over the years for lack of maitenance. Such was not the case. Penn International reels were fully spooled; there were no nicks or abrasion in the line; all knots and connections were sound; and the drags were smooth.

We set out in pursuit of elusive marlin, but they were not biting -- for the Carnivore or any other charter on that day. Captain Jeff quickly switched tactics to make it possible for us to catch bait-size tuna and stubborn amberjack. Captain Jeff provided us with a warm "welcome aboard" and his congenial manner lasted throughout the day. We felt like we were truly his guests and that he was committed to helping us to achieve a quality Kona fishing experience. In addition, Captain Jeff is a good teacher and provided just the right amount of instruction which was individualized according to the range of angling experience held by each member of our charter group.

I highly recommend Captain Jeff's services for any discriminate angler.

I highly recommend Capt Jeff for chartering in Kona. As a fishing captain myself, I was highly impressed with the variety of fishing methods utilized and the seamless transition between each method. CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT CAPT. JEFF & BOB (GRAND SLAM). LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR AGAIN - 6 PEOPLE AND EVERYONE GOT A HIT! ATE MAHI LAST YEAR AND GREY SNAPPER THIS YEAR. CAN'T DECIDE WHICH IS BEST! We had a great time fishing two days (6/18 & 6/25) with Capt. Jeff on the Carnivore. Right from the start, we noticed that Jeff worked hard at trying to hook up with fish. When one method or area wasn't producing, he was quick to make the necessary changes. As a result, while other boats were returing to the harbor with no success, we were able to fly flags for a variety of fish. We caught several ono and a 70 lb. sand bar shark, but the highlight was an 8 1/2 ft. - 161 lb. marlin we boated. All in all, Jeff was an enjoyable captain to fish with and his knowledge of the waters and the sport prove him as a highliner in the Kona charter fleet. We would definitely fish with him again.

Myself, Bob Rosado, Larry Massaro, and Mike Hom chartered with Jeff for 2 days of fishing in Kona. It was a fantastic time! We caught several Jacks (40-50lbs), Tuna, Mahi-mahi(20lbs) and a 80lb shark. Jeff is an expert Captain and fisherman. He worked his tail off for us. I can't wait to fish with him again in the future, and next time we will get a Marlin. I only wish I could say nice things about my co-fishermen (Bob, Mike, Larry), as I can for Jeff, but they unfortunately took every opportunity to steal my hook ups (Larry), and one (Larry) even had his picture taken with anothers fish. Many thanks for the great time on the water, fishing. It was wonderful and so very relaxing. Ron and I enjoyed every minute of our three days fishing the Pacific Ocean. Even though, at times, the fishing was somewhat slow, the mere size of the fish caught, more than made up for the time spent in waiting. The fish were soooo huge! The pics will be added to our trophy fish picture collection. Thanks, again, for a great experience.

Capt. Jeff~

I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful time! Catching not one, but two Mahi Mahi was quite an experience! I know I can speak for my family when I say that you made our vacation and we will look you up next year when we return to Kona. All i can say to anyone deciding if they should or should not book Capt. Jeff, is that YOU WILL CATCH FISH! There were 6 of us and we caught 7 Mahi Mahi (not to mention the 3 fish that got off) and one Amberjack! Have fun fishing in Kona! I know that August 15th is a date that will stick out in my head forever!

We had a blast! You and Bob were so very nice. The shark was outrageous! My daughter still wants half of the credit for the shark since it was her bait fish that brought it up. I will never hear the end of how she should have caught it. We will always remember that day. When we come back again ...and we will...we want to do another day of fantastic fun and fishing with you! Maybe then we can catch that grander I wanted too.

I had a great time on a 3/4 day trip on the Carnivore July 2, 2002. Jeff runs a clean boat and works hard on getting fish on the deck. I did both trolling in the morning for Ono and Aku. I had several double hooks ups on Aku, really a fun fish to fight. We had four for the day. Then Jeff took me to the bottom to fish. First hookup a 60 lb reef shark from 500 ft down...boy what a fight. Next drop down was a 25 lb gray snapper. So I had a total of 5 fish for the day. Jeff is a great guy and knows his stuff. He did a wonderful job on preparing the fish. Aku was great suchi that night and grill the rest. The gray snapper was the BEST eating fish I have had in Hawaii, tasted better than white sea bass. Anyway thanks again Jeff for a great time and I plan to charter you again next year when I am in Kona.

We had a great time on our 3/4 day charter of the Carnivore. Really nice clean boat. Tried both trolling and bottom fishing and had quite a few hits on both. Enjoyed watching my wife haul the shark up from 150 fathoms. It looked like a lot of work! Caught a nice mahi mahi - a really pretty fish. Thought I might end up BEING BAIT after screwing up on a pretty decent sized marlin ( just kidding ). At least there's one more big one out there for you. We highly recommend Captn. Jeff. You'll have fun, learn a lot and catch fish.

The second day was even more exciting, catching a 304 lb. blue marlin-my biggest fish to date. You run a clean boat, are a top notch captain and a fun guide. Couldn't ask for more from a charter fishing trip. We would highly recommend you to anyone and look forward to fishing with you again to try to top 304 lbs. Thanks for the wonderful

What an fantastic day of fishing!! If you want to catch fish you have to go with Jeff. He is the fish GOD!! Our all day charter started out a little slow but man did it pick up. We caught a big toothy sand bar shark, a 109# amber jack, a beautiful yellow fin tuna, a short billed sword fish and 3 onos. Not counting the 5 skip jack we used for bait. There was so many fish in the boat we were tripping over them!! If you dont go fishing with Captain Jeff your not fishing. Thanks again Jeff for the great day. I still have my rubber band.

What a great half day trip with Capt Jeff! Action from the getgo with several tuna on line, but unfortunately not landed. Not Jeff's fault.. over eagerness on my part and got in his way.

The 38 pound amberjack was definitely the largest fish that I have ever caught. Can only imagine the stamina necessary to bring in a marlin.

Capt. Jeff,
Sorry for being so late in telling you what a great time that I and my family had fishing with you. The only thing that my boys are upset at was that I took most of the time of our trip to land and bring to port the 851 1/2 # marlin that I (and you) caught. I still owe 2 of my sons a chance to catch a fish with you next year. Though Chris who caught the amberjack wants a shot at a marlin. Thanks, Bill

We all had a great time on the 3/4 day charter. While the surface bite was nonexistent, Captain Jeff's specialty of bottom fishing put us onto the fish, a great time for all aboard. We played a few big fish and the Almaco jacks we landed were beautiful. It was awesome to see the 10 ft tiger shark that almost got my Almaco Jack, it definitely kept me from taking a dip in the water. I'm already planning a trip to Kona next year to fish with Capt Jeff again. Fish On !!!

Captain Jeff -
Many thanks from two novices for a great day! I was concerned that we might spend an entire day without any action but your record came through for us! The three amberjacks and the sand bar shark were excellent fights and we both had the sore arm muscles the next day to prove it. We won't mention a fourth (presumably) amberjack that Dad lost! My son will remember this day forever and hopefully he will continue with the sport whenever he has a chance with the knowledge he picked up from you. A most exciting adventure. The bottom fishing assures you the utmost possibility of "catching" and not just "fishing". Do that for awhile and then go for the trolling possibilities and you never know what might happen!! This was absolutely a life experience. Anyone looking for a great days fishing with a knowledgeable, friendly,
courteous captain who will go out of his way to make sure you have a great
days fishing, should make sure they charter with Captain Jeff. I found him
on the internet looking for current information about the Kona fishing scene.
I had 2 great days of fishing on the K-IX. Jeff knows just where the fish
are. Even when the bite was slow the days I was out, I still caught a tuna,
amberjack, and had an estimated 200 pound plus marlin on that got off right
at the back of the boat. I highly recommend you book with Capt. Jeff Rogers
and the K-IX. You'll "catch" fish, not just "go fishing".

We had a GREAT trip with Capt. Rogers! He put us on fish all day and demonstrated that he truly wanted us to have a great time. We tried different techniques and all worked. Capt. Jeff continually told us what we were doing and why. If you want a captain who sits upstairs all day, driving you over the ocean while catching nothing, go with someone else. Found Jeff & K-IX shopping on the net. What a find! Wanted to, on my second Kona fishing experience, see what else Kona fishing had to offer besides fast trolling 4 to 8 hours. To make a long story short, Jeff made it happen. As much bottom fishing (and catching) as my body could take along with fun fishing for small tuna and what ever else happened to grab the lures. And, to top it off, picked up a spearfish on our first troll out and a nice marlin on the last troll in. Of course, some luck was involved, but having the right equipment and knowledge of when, where and how to catch Kona fish did help the luck.
Thanks Jeff, we'll do it again next year. However, I'm bringing another strong back (my son) to spell me between amberjacks or whatever else grabs the bait.

Greetings Jeff,

I just wanted to say thanks for an absolutely fabulous day of fishing, or as you so appropriately put it, "catching". It was clearly the most successful charter trip I have ever had anywhere, including Kona, bar none. As a matter fact my arms were pretty sore the following day from the fish we had caught, but the fun time and the delicious fish BBQ we had made the muscle soreness well worth it. Thanks again and I'll be sure to refer all of my friends and book with you the next time I'm in Kona. Take care and good luck with everything, we wish you the best.

Capt'n Jeff: What fun catching, landing and releasing so many Ono on our 1/2 day charter May 10th. My wife and I had never been deep sea fishing on a personal charter before. While seated with you high above the deck in the cool morning sea breeze, we not only learned alot about fishing, but about local sea currents, the Big Island, your family and your local youth pastorship. We had a super time fishing. It was one of the highlights for our trip. The uncertainty of what we were going to catch was particularly exciting, and indeed, what a thrill it was to catch two 400+ lb. bronze whaler sharks! Aloha Jeff!

Just writing to thank you for a great Kona fishing trip. Also,
for anyone checking out the K-IX webpage, I highly recommend
booking a trip with Jeff if you are interested in CATCHING
fish! I am an avid fisherman, plus have guided in Alaska and Jeff
is a total professional in getting you into some big jacks, plus knows his trolling too.
I was amazed that hardly a single bait made it to the bottom before being
engulfed by big fish. Thanks for letting me use my fly rod too.Next time, hopefully
we'll hook a big one on it, instead of just "making bait". Also, a BIG thanks to
Bill for taking us out on "Old Flame" while the K-IX was sidelined.

What a great day! Capt. Jeff has a class act for fishing! We caught some great fish and he knows EXACTLY where they are. Capt. Jeff had a good heads up play on the way back to port spotting a school of tuna on the surface and getting a rod out from his spot up high while driving the boat resulting in one tuna to the boat and several more hookups. Cap't Jeff,
Thanks for a great day of fishing and your hospitality on K-IX. We had a superb time. Looking forward to our return visit...to get that ONE that got away, Ha!. You can bet we will be calling on your services again.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for making our fishing trip in Hawaii a fantastic experience. You are a great, caring skipper. When I didn't think I could bring in my
Amberjack, you gave me the strength to do it. Boy was I glad. What a feeling! Back here I fish for striped bass and the largest one I caught
was 7 1/2 pounds, 27 1/2 inches. Nothing compares to catching that big one. Let me know if you get that big shark that swallowed my other
fish. Good luck!! Gary had a great time catching his fish too.

Thanks so much

Jeff,

Thanks for the great time on the K-IX. After those
hard-fighting amberjacks, our arms were sore for two
days. Maybe next time I'll do some weightlifting
beforehand and try some deep water jigging! :)
Best wishes for success as you continue to refine
your innovative approach to Kona fishing.

We had a wonderful day fishing with capt. Jeff, March 1, 2001. You are so imformative and helpful, we have fished alot in California, but nothing like this! This is no expensive boat ride, and you might catch a fish! Joe caught and released ! amberjack,I almacojack,1striped marlin and a shortnose spearfish. Pat and Gary caught and released 1 amberjack and a shortnose spearfish and 1 amberjack. Capt. Jeff knows how to fish and loves it. You will catch fish and learn alot. Thanks for one of the best days of my life. God Bless You!

Captain Jeff,
Just a note to let you know how much my wife and son enjoyed our day with you.
You are a real pro who knows the Kona waters like the back of your hand.
The shark made the day very interesting. Since this was the first fish
that my wife has ever caught, what do you suggest for an encore?

My only regret is that we ran our of bait to early.
This may have been a day of destiny if not for lack of
bait. A great time was had by all.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Just a super day fishing with Jeff Rogers!! He is an exceptionally talented guide who knows how to find and catch trophy fish. My wife has never caught a fish before in her entire life until we booked with Capt. Jeff Rogers- and her first fish was a striped marlin! However, the best part of the day was sharing some good conversation with Jeff Rogers in the beautiful blue waters of the Pacific Ocean off the Kona coast! Just can't say enough about the wonderful experience we had with Capt. Rogers. It was the highlight of our business-vacation trip to Kona, Hawaii. Thanks for the great time, Jeff!

We spent two great days fishing with Jeff to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. We caught 3 1/4 amberjack - a shark got the other 3/4's giving us a great fight in the process - and two mahi mahi. Jeff was great to be with and did a great job of pacing the fishing to keep it interesting. We definitely plan on fishing with Jeff again.

Aloha, Captain Jeff! Sadly, we are now back in Montana where the only fishing we can do right now is ice fishing! A great big thanks to you for a great time - we're very impressed that even though the weather didn't cooperate and we had to come in after only 6 hours, you managed to hook all three of us up with 30#-plus amberjacks!! Not bad considering this was Michael's first fishing trip...ever!!
Mahalo, and until next time, wishing you great times and tight lines!!

Never having fished Hawaii before we booked two charters, letting both captains know our main interest was catching fish. The first trip was an 8 hour boat ride with nary a strike---this captain didn't know what catching fish meant. Capt. Jeff did. The Marlin were not on the bite so we fished for Amberjack and Giant Trevally and although we did catch an incidintal Marlin we caught the other fish (to 45lbs.) till our arms ached. Would we fish with Jeff again? In a heart-beat. I've fished the Pacific from Alaska to Costa Rica and have never had a better experience than the one with Capt. Jeff.
Wishing you all good fishing,

Dear Captain Jeff:

Thanks to you (and the Salty Dog) for two great days of fishing. A wonderful time was had by all, and we were certainly sore from hauling in GIANT Amberjack on day #1. Although the marlin action was a bit slower, we appreciated all your efforts in trying to hook us up with one. And, on TWO separate occasions when we finally had hits, we knew you felt as badly as we did when they spit out the lure and bid us "aloha." Also, we know we were fortunate to spot (with you) a marlin at the surface attempting to eat a dead puffer fish... something rarely observed by humans. Can't wait to come back to the big island and book you for another charter. Until then, best wishes for continued good (and safe) fishing.

My wife, 7 year-old son, 6 year-old daughter, and I have been out twice with Capt. Jeff. Both times we caught fish! Big fish! The biggest fish we've ever caught! More importantly we had a GREAT TIME! Capt. Jeff is AWESOME!

My buddy, Carlos, and I fished with Jeff and then cancelled another charter to be able to fish with him again. He found fish and help us use the fly and light tackle we brought to use. We are looking forward to fishing with Jeff in the future.

When we showed up at the dock, we told Cap'n Jeff that we didn't want to "fish," - we wanted to CATCH! And that's just what we did, pulling in fish after fish after fish after...

Great fun all around and the best deal in Kona! Thanks Cap'n Jeff!

I caught 2 sharks. One 100 and one 200. We were not successful in getting marlin, but I had a great time in any case. Capt. Jeff provided a great experience for me and I am ready to do it again. Maybe I will be able to go back next year.

I had a great time, the only problem I had was that I chartered his boat for two days by myself. I caught so many large fish the first day, including a 216lb Blue Martin, that I really didn't need to fish two days, I couldn't eat all the fish from the first day and my arm was a little sore. But pound for pound Jeff knows fishing.

We had a wonderful day on the ocean. Jeff took us right to the fish. I caught a 100 pound shark and my son-in-law caught two fish that weighed almost 100 pounds. He knows a lot about fishing and shows you a terrific time. I give him two thumbs up.

Capt. Jeff knows his stuff and how to totally exhaust a angler. In hindsight, I had a great experience and accidently caught my first Marlin. Immediate reaction was "ouch." Would do it again.
