Feb. 25th. & 26th. Fritz Stuhlmuller and David Golden fished with me for 2 days on the Grand Slam. On the first day Fritz got a striped marlin in the morning. We spent about 45 minutes bottom fishing and both Fritz and David caught amberjack. We trolled the rest of the day without a hit. The next day we only had one hit on the troll and got bit off by a shark while bottom fishing. No fish to the boat, a skunk day.

Feb. 19th.
While catching bait fish, an oceanic white tip shark ate one of 'em off the line right behind the boat. We threw another bait out, rigged with a circle hook and Robert Gray got to fight it. I did get a better photo of the shark but this one shows the kind of power a shark well over 100 lbs. can produce.

I had a great time fishing with Tony Benefito. An experienced angler that was very useful helping with the gear. We had 2 bites on the troll but they didn't stick. Tony got a shark while bottom fishing. Tony, I told you that your shark was a sandbar shark. OOOps. This is obviously a Galapagose shark.

Feb. 5th.
The current switched and just killed the trolling bite. The good news was that the bottom bite was really good and there was no waiting time at all to hook up. Steve Woodman caught and released 2 amberjack on this 3/4 day trip.

Feb. 3rd.
Poking along the near-shore reefs has turned into more than just a kids fishing trip. While the kids were catching giant needlefish (5) and snapper (3), I spotted a big barracuda that was interested in what was going on. I live baited a needlefish for him and Brett Chronister got the catch and release. Bill Yoder caught and released an almaco jack on a swimming meatball.

Jan. 26th.
The day started slow. Bait was hard to find but we did get a rainbow runner for the dinner table. We missed a few bottom bites but then hooked into a tiger shark that was well over 1000 lbs. Bruce did a good job but an hour into the fight, the main gear screws in the reel sheared off and we broke off the fish. The dissapointment was short lived because about 15 minutes later Bob McDonald hooked up and landed this 545 pound Pacific blue marlin.
