Paphos | Protaras | Nicosia | Limassol | Larnaca | Troodos Akamas Peninsula - 30 mins drive from Paphos town this is the complete holiday, with sloping hills and beautiful countryside. The local towns of Polis and Latchi are a perfect spot to enjoy traditional food and wine. Latchi has a stunning harbor and beaches that feature taverns and sea food restaurants making this an idillic location to kick back and enjoy what Cyprus has to offer. On the southwest coast of Cyprus lies the port city of Limmasol.A thriving town, not only for tourism but for industry as well. The rapid development of this town is due to the Turkish invasion as Famagusta port was lost to the Greek Cypriots and had to be replaced. The second of the two British Bases is found here. Whilest lying on one of the many beaches, you notice the Troodos Mountains.Well worth the visit Toodos is filled with sleepy villages. The secret of their discovery is to get off the main roads and on to the rough tracks.Take time to stop at the dams that have been established and perhaps you might catch one of the trout on offer. It is here that the visitor will see many of the vineyards with limassol being the main centre for wine production.Wine is among one of Cypruses most important exports, with production and sales growing yearly.Cyprus wines draw on a reputation that reaches back to ancient times. In September of each year the Limassol wine festival is held in the citys Municipal Gardens with the various wineries giving away free wine by the plastic glass full.Cyprus wines run the gamut from light, sparkling whites to full-bodied reds. One of the most sort after wines being Commandaria, a ruby-red sweet dessert wine. The grapes are picked at the last possible moment and are then sun-dried.A buy product from the grape remnants after wine fermentation is Cyprus whiskey known as Zivania. This drink is so firey that Cypriots drink it in moderation and even use it as rubbing alchol for soothing aches and tired muscles. The southwest side of the island has been blessed with
some of the finest and most important historical sites. The ancient coastal
cities of Amathus and Kourion are found here. With the Kourion boasting
a romantic Greek theatre built into the side of a steep slope. Near to
Kourion lie the remains of the Sanctuary Apollo Hylates, the woodland
god. Poolside in the Akamas village of Arsinoe Enjoy some private locations away from the rush of it all The lush areas of the peninsula in the winter Awake and step out onto your private balcony More sloping hills and unspoilt countryside Rich colours of the flora Taverns on the beach in Latchi Views from the town of Polis You can see more photo album gallery for Paphos Cyprus soon...
