The Comox Air Force Museum displays the heritage of 19 Wing Comox and West Coast Canadian Military Aviation. Located at the historic and operational 19 Wing Comox, our Museum records the history and heritage of all of Canada’s Air Forces, from the short-lived Royal Flying Corps of Canada (1917-1918) and Canadian Air Force (1918-1924) through the glory years of the Royal Canadian Air Force (1924-1968), consolidation of the forces in 1968 and on into the present day. All of this is through a local lens, as our Museum chronicles the history of West Coast military aviation, the history of Comox in particular.

Our Museum is proud to host one of the finest aviation libraries in Canada. This world class collection spans the breadth of aviation; from personal accounts and biographies to technical manuals in the books, and from Canadian Forces issue service magazines to model hobbyist magazines in our periodicals section. At present, the library includes:

  • over 7000 books
  • twenty-five thousand periodicals
  • twenty thousand photos

A Gift Shop full of Comox-focused aviation items is located inside the entrance to our Museum. A variety of items are available for those looking for souvenirs, or those looking to continue or complete a collection. At the gift shop visitors will find knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers, who are happy to answer any questions or provide explanations of all the ephemera our Museum displays.

Our Museums's Heritage Airpark nearby hosts a fine collection of vintage aircraft. This collection is expanding and changing regularly, but consistently features a selection of aircraft of significance in the history of Comox and West Coast aviation. Also nearby is the museum’s largest restoration project, the rebuilding of the Y2K Mark IX Spitfire. The Spitfire is in the midst of being assembled, and is open for the public to view on weekends. When completed, it will be a flyable memorial to those who flew them in the Second World War, especially those who served on 442 Squadron (now located at Comox), in whose colours the Spitfire will be marked.
