Using Customer Service to Make Your Home Business a Success
Are you looking for new and innovative ways to make your home business a success? Perhaps it's time to look at one area of business that is overlooked far too much: customer service. It's no secret that customers will buy again and again from a business when they have received good service and a quality product, but just how do you insure that happens? In short, making a home business a success requires that you unequivocally cater to and give your customers what they want. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Tip # 1 for making your home business a success
It's one thing to have a general idea about your customer service policies, and quite another to put it in writing and make sure everyone knows about it. For example, if your returns policy is a no-questions asked return policy that is good for 30 days, why not print it on your receipts or invoices, and make sure that every employee knows about it? Many times, a customer just needs to know that, if a problem occurs, the seller is going to stand behind their product.
Tip # 2 for making your home business a success
Offer rewards to the employees that show stellar customer service skills. Have a monthly contest and make your employees compete by servicing your customers the best they can. For example, if you employ sales people, have them log the amount of time it takes to return a customer's phone call or find a solution to a problem.
Tip # 3 for making your home business a success
Motivate your employees to provide excellent customer service by exhibiting the traits yourself. For instance, bring along employees when you visit your customers, and let them see how you bend over backwards to make the customers happy.
Tip # 4 for making your home business a success
Hold a weekly or monthly meeting with your employees and ask them how they think you can improve your product or services. Your employees, especially if they are salespeople, are the ones who probably meet with your clients most often, therefore, they have the best opportunity to find out what is working and what is not. Train them to talk to your customers and get feedback about how the company can be improved.
Tip # 5 for making your home business a success
Perhaps one of the most productive ways to improve your customer service is to ask your customers what they need. You can do this through your employees, as mentioned in the previous tip, or you can call, write or email them directly and ask them yourself. Another good way to get their input is to include a survey card in your next communications with them, such as your monthly newsletter or even invoice, and invite them to offer feedback. By asking a customer what they need, you will convey the message that you are willing to do whatever it takes to make them happy.
