| 1. Is
your practice solely dedicated to hair
transplants? - How many of these procedures has
your clinic performed? - Would you rather go to a
clinic that only performs a dozen hair
transplants a year? Or, one that performs them
everyday?
2. What
are the risks?
- Although minor,
an ethical doctor will always advise you of your
risks with any procedure.
3. Where
is the procedure performed?
4. Can
I see/talk to some of your past-patients?
- Any hair
transplant clinic that doesn't allow you to talk
to their past patients should be viewed with
caution and/or avoided.
5. What
do you recommend to give me a natural looking
head of hair? How many hair grafts will I need?
- A doctor looking
at your hair loss should be able to give you
their objective opinion without resorting to
trying to sell you on more hair grafts then you
actually need. But you'll have to trust your
instincts on what he tells you.
6. How
many procedures will I need to achieve the
results I want?
- For
many patients, reversing hair loss cannot be
solved in one hair transplant session.
7. What
should my expectations be?
- A good hair
transplant doctor can achieve successful results
for you but they may not match your image of hair
like Brad Pitt. A good doctor will be able to
tell you this.
8. How
many hair grafts does my donor area contain?
- The
amount of hair grafts you will be able to have
transplanted in your lifetime depend on your
donor area. It is important to always know
approximately how many grafts your donor area
contains.
9. How
much will my procedure cost?
- Avoid
any clinic that cannot answer this question
outright. Many unethical firms will try talk
around this subject (in an attempt to sell you on
their particular clinic). They will also tell you
they cannot answer this question by claiming they
need to do a consultation first. A consultation
might tell you how many grafts you should receive
in your first session, but a clinic should be
able to tell you how much they charge without a
consultation. To those type clinics, a
consultation is the best opportunity to sell you
on their particular clinic. Be wary of this.
10. Do
you recommend a combination of hair transplants
and medical treatment?
- Hair transplants
combined with propecia or rogaine and possibly
surgery can nearly defeat hair loss.
One last important
point to remember about your consultation. Don't
commit to anything during or immediately prior to
your consultation. You need time to think it over
in your head. Consider all the pros and cons of
the clinic or doctor you just spoke with. As with
most people, after your consultation, you will
think of more questions and concerns that you
didn't think of before. The consultation may
leave you feeling that this particular doctor or
clinic walks on water but you need to take a step
back, sleep on it some more and look at
everything objectively. Don't make a committment
to any clinic or doctor without giving yourself
more time to think it over some more following
your consultation.
