The WTO at 10

Organized by the "Inter-University Centre on International Economic Organisations" - CIDOIE - of the Universities of Eastern Piedmont at Alessandria, Turin, Genoa, Milan-State and Milan-Bocconi.

Steering Committee: Giuseppe Coscia, Manlio Frigo, Giorgio Sacerdoti.

The conference will address various issues relating to the role of the WTO's dispute settlement system on the occasion of the WTO's Tenth Anniversary. Special focus will be given to the role played within the system by the Appellate Body as it, too, reaches its Tenth Anniversary. We are honoured that Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Director-General of the WTO, has agreed to give the keynote address and that Ambassador Renato Ruggiero, former Director-General of the WTO, has agreed to give the inaugural address. A number of other experts, including former Appellate Body Members, have also agreed to participate as speakers. The conference will be attended by Geneva-based WTO delegates, high-ranking government officials from capitals, business and labour leaders, representatives from civil society, academics, private attorneys, and students. The conference Program is available for your information.

This will be the first in a series of conferences commemorating the Tenth Anniversary of the WTO's Dispute Settlement System and the Appellate Body. These conferences are being organized by a number of academic institutions with which some Members of the Appellate Body are affiliated. Other conferences in the series are scheduled to be held in 2005 and 2006 in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Tokyo, Japan; Cairo, Egypt; Sydney, Australia; and New York, United States.
Additional information about these conferences is available at this site http://www.stresawtoat10.org/conferencesSeries
