K-20 Courses for Students

Elementary School (grades PK-5):
Students in grades K-5 typically enroll in courses that are classified as “self-contained” where they spend the majority of the time in one classroom. Therefore, in most cases, there is not a need for separate course numbers within each grade level. The classroom instruction is based on the expectations identified in the Sunshine State Standards.

Middle School (grades 6-8):
Students in middle grades may enroll in courses offered within the 17 different subjects areas of art-visual arts; computer education; dance; drama-theater arts; exploratory education; foreign languages; health; language arts; library media; mathematics; music; peer counseling; physical education; research and critical thinking; science; social studies; career and technical education. Each course is developed using the benchmarks outlined in the Sunshine State Standards.

Postsecondary Education
Postsecondary courses may be found on the department’s Statewide Course Numbering System. This web-based system provides a complete database of postsecondary courses offerings at Florida's universities, community colleges, vocational-technical centers, and participating nonpublic institutions. On this site is information about postsecondary course content, satisfaction of statewide requirements, and the guaranteed transfer of credit. Use the Find an Institution link to find information about a participating institution. Find a Course will provide information about a specific institution's courses or statewide course descriptions. Visit www.facts.org for information on how these courses meet postsecondary degree requirements.
