Seattle Monorail Bid Still in Limbo  
Negotiations with the remaining bidder for Seattle’s monorail project will continue until agreement is reached on design and costs. Work was to begin this year on the 14-mile line for a 2009 opening, but the Seattle Monorail Project board has not set a deadline to end talks with Cascadia Monorail, a 29-firm consortium led by Washington Group International and Fluor Corp.   House Committee Clears $284-billion Highway-Transit Bill
Giving a boost to prospects for a new surface transportation bill, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has approved a $283.9-billion measure that would fund highway, transit and safety programs through fiscal 2009. As expected, the funding total in the committee's bill, approved March 2 on a unanimous vote, is the same amount that President Bush recommended for the legislation last month.
