User Search
In a typical community a site member / user is provided with a membership which gives them access to different areas of the community database through a set of user friendly tools.
Through this they will be able to gather any information available of interest to them, including other site members.
Depending on how you have planned your site and what software solution you have chosen, members will be able to search for details on other users through numerous fields. They might want to choose someone within the community who has the same interest, who lives in the same area, has the same occupation or who is of a similar age.
For example on a fishing site, a member may want to find someone who lives in Portsmouth who enjoys boat fishing, to discuss about the latest bait or tackle, or to organise getting a few other members together for a fishing trip. Or on a kite surfing site, a member might search to see if any of the other members are also doctors.
It is this virtual connection between people – impossible without the use of the Internet – that is so exciting and powerful as a way of building an online audience. People like meeting people like them, and if you give them an environment in which to do it, they’ll come back time and time again!
