Motorists could face a £100 fine for blocking traffic
A traffic management bill is due to be debated in the Commons; if the bill is passed motorists could face a fine of £100 for blocking traffic. Shadow transport spokesman Damian Green has been quoted as saying that this new bill is a "thinly disguised ways of extracting even more money from the already heavily taxed motorist". This fine would not however be accompanied by and penalty points on the motorists licence.
Other issues that this bill is dealing with include; introducing more speed cameras, fines for companies that do not complete roadworks by a set date, hence causing more disruption to traffic than is necessary and it would give traffic wardens the power to fine motorists (something that currently only the police have the power to do).
