The Power of Patterns
The reality of application development is that it is quite tedious to manually implement design patterns in a large application - maybe not on your first TransferObject, but definitely by the time you hit your fiftieth. A better way to harness the power of patterns is to describe your intended technical architecture in the form of a pattern framework, then have it automatically applied to the problem domain at hand. Over the last couple of years, Compuware has been helping to formalize a development approach that does just that. They call this approach model-driven, pattern-based (MDPB) development.
