Search Guild Recent ThreadsFroogle - associating reviews. does anyone know how I can kick Froogle into associating site reviews with my feed?
Basically if you search for, say Goats Cheese on Froogle and scroll down to the Waitrose entry you'll see there's a 'Reviews' link which links to an online review site.
But I have clients on my Froogle account which have reviews on sites which Froogle pulls them in from (including that exact site) with the same site url as is given in the review, and they aren't showing up....
From what I can see they should get automatically matched - has anyone got any idea how I can kick start this matching? Do you think it needs a new review? trouble for small programming companies? Pretty scarey stuff reported by the BBC - ultimately there're only a certain number of ways you can code something - a shopping basket has to use certain concepts otherwise it isn't a shopping basket anymore - pretty much if we can't write shopping baskets (online and offline and whatever we call them) then this little company has lost half it's business :(
Since patents are about methods not the actual code, this we means we would have to pay to use the theory, regardless of the fact we've written totally unique code to do it, regardless even of us working out the best software construction around ourselves and never deconstructing a competitors product. Basically you use a concept/method you pay £££ to whatever company managed to patent it first.
Yet if the new directive is nodded through at the next meeting of one of the EU's ministerial councils, as seems likely, it will allow programs to be patented in Europe just as they are in the US.
In the US you cannot build a system that stores customer credit card details so that they can pay without having to re-enter them unless Amazon lets you, because they hold the patent on "one-click" online purchase.
If you think that's so stupid it'll never get through in Europe I seem to remember that Microsoft actally managed to patent the double click a couple of years ago didn't they? I suspect EU judges are no brighter than US ones and when the people making the decisions are that out of touch you have to wonder not only if things will become law but if it'll actually get enforced at some point?
The problem with all of this stuff is that however stupid the law is it can cost

QUOTE Search engine placements remain the same. Just noticed that. Apparently, you have nothing to worry about then. webpromoter: Google Placing Less Emphasis On Link Popularity? (Optimization Tips & Techniques) Hi,
I don't know if this is true or not, but as Google is updating PRs, there is a rumor being circulated that they're now placing less emphasis on link popularity. Can someone point to a credible source on this topic?
Link popularity initially may have seemed like a good idea, albeit a flawed one, as a factor for relevancy, but as we all know, as soon as the word gets around, people would try to exploit the SE algorithm, sometimes through questionable means (eg. link farming, link buying, etc). I don't see any ethical problems with SEO in general, but since SEs have to constantly evolve to keep their systems from being abused, I wonder if many of us are allocating too much of our time & resources to gain higher link popularity? sweepthelegnate: Yahoo Webhosting (Technology and Coding) I concur with searchrank blue virtual is amazing been with them a couple of years myself. sweepthelegnate: Just To Make You Jealous... Putting it into the head section of each page for a 12 page site is probably the easiest. 100 pages would be another story. ;) Haystack: Links To My Web Site Disappearing Overnight! (Link Building)
QUOTE But by producing links by hand you can control the context they're put in - so as not to look like spam. So if you work to keep your spam from looking like spam it's no longer spam? Interesting theory. QUOTE So, example, if I set up a homepage e.g.myhomepage.com (or a blog) and put some links to my favourite web sites, is this spam? How can it be? Step back for a moment and think about what search engines are trying to achieve when they use link popularity as part of their search engine algorithms. Clearly, the assumption behind it is to use the independent endorsements web site owners have made to decide how important a web page may be. If you're using a tactic that abuses this basic assumption (artificially inflating your site's link popularity through blog spamming, fake sites, etc.), you're setting yourself up for failure. Here is Google's advice on the subject: QUOTE Webmasters who spend their energies upholding the spirit of the basic principles listed above will provide a much better user experience and subsequently enjoy better ranking than those who spend their time looking for loopholes they can exploit. http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.htmljjisles: Anchor Tags Changing Color Of Link Text (Technology and Coding) Cool. Got it. This nav scheme will be in almost every page (the site will be approx. 12 pages more or less). I'm not using any CSS. Would you recommend using the external CSS file, which would be a first for me as well. Mike Renagade Master: Google Cloaks? (Industry News) I'm shocked they couldn't find a better way of boosting their own pages to #1, than to cloak. Which isn't scaleable, they'll have to cloak every page they want boosted.
I would have thought a bit of code like:
CODE if ( web_page_domain in google_owned_domain_list ) then web_page = top_position
