Marlin Magazine January 2005 Issue - Panama Big Game Fishing Club
Posted by Steve on Sunday, 30 January 2005 (00:03:18) GMT+4 (72 reads)
panama-sportfish writes "Panama RevisitedCentral America's Newest Fishing Lodge by Gary Kramer, Marlin Magazine Just 200 miles or so west of Panama City on Central America's Pacific coast lie some of the most famous fishing grounds in the world. Mention Hannibal Bank or Isla Coiba to any serious big-game fisherman and images of giant black marlin, tackle-busting yellowfin tuna and bulldog cubera snappers immediately fill his head. Thanks to the area's diverse habitats, warm equatorial sea temperatures, rich upwellings, remoteness and lack of overfishing, the shores of Panama enjoy a longevity rarely seen in sportfishing. The Panama Big Game Fishing Club aim to add a new twist to this historic fishery. The now-defunct Club Pacifico de Panama opened this region to traveling fishermen in the 1970s. A fair share of operations have since come and gone in this area, but few can compare with the Panama Big Game Fishing Club, the newest lodge. Just an hour by water taxi from the town of David, the lodge was built atop the highest elevation on Isla Boca Brava in 2001, offering a commanding view of the surrounding area. Four fully equipped guest cottages, gourmet meals and fantastic fishing make the lodge a must-visit. "

Eel industry faces major crisis
Posted by Steve on Sunday, 28 November 2004 (09:19:54) GMT+4 (109 reads)
Written By: Kate Scrafton On Date: 18/11/2004 http://www.anglingnews.net No one knows why there has been such a serious decline in elvers. Northern Ireland's eel industry faces a major crisis if the problem over the supply of young fish is not solved, it has been warned. Their commercial fishing is based at Lough Neagh - the sole surviving major wild eel fishery in Europe. Total annual output of eels from the lough is about 700 tonnes, with most exported to Holland. However, in recent years the natural supply of baby eels, known as elvers, has dramatically declined.

Fish Identification T-shirts from Fishboy
Posted by Steve on Wednesday, 29 September 2004 (17:36:19) GMT+4 (232 reads)
fishboy writes "Fishboy, creators of highly evolved fishing designs on t-shirts, hats and gifts, introduces a new line of funny fishing t-shirts aimed at the proper identification of fish species or at least a funny alternative way of looking at fish. The series offers several freshwater and saltwater species to choose from including bass, trout, tarpon, shark, marlin and even suckers. The shirts include scientific names such as "maximus appetitus" or Shark and funny traits such as "prefers low-barb diet" (trout). Like previous Fishboy releases such as their popular Dumbass and Bassturd shirts, the Fish Identification series features bold graphics by artist Paul Ocepek and humorous text. "This line allows us to reach out and create specific products for all types of fishermen instead of just trying to create products for the more popular species such as trout and bass. Now we can even offer the catfisherman a funny Fishboy product." says Fishboy artist Paul Ocepek. Fishboy designs are silkscreened on 100% cotton, pigment dyed, heavyweight t-shirts. Fishboy products are available at better outdoor retailers and from their website at http://www.fishboy.com "

Salmon Species and Everything You Ever Wanted to Know

Salmon Species and Everything You Ever Wanted to KnowKing Salmon, Sockeye, Silver, Pink, Chum, and Atlantic
Descriptions of the Salmon Species
by Garry Gamber
Did you know that there are five species of Pacific salmon and one species of Atlantic salmon? Further, did you know that all 5 species of Pacific salmon run wild in Alaska?
Weâ??re proud of our wild salmon here in Alaska, and rightly so. On the one hand the wild salmon are great sport fish and we Alaskans love to spend gorgeous summer weekends challenging them.
On the other hand our commercial fisheries are healthy and self-sustaining. They are able to catch enough wild salmon to satisfy most of the world wide demand for fresh wild fillets in the restaurants and packaged wild salmon on grocery store shelves.

More sea-bass invade our coast.
Posted by Steve on Saturday, 21 August 2004 (19:17:37) GMT+4 (273 reads)
By netfish.no and Doc J Colman Currently in Norway a quiet revolution is underway. With out so much of a fanfare or a welcoming party a new sports species quietly established itself along our coast. The ocean going sea-bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) is here and we sports fishermen have a lot to look forward to. Currently one of the most comprehensive research projects (involving Norwegian sea-bass) is underway and it is hoped that many of the questions and mysteries will be answered. Reports have filtered in that over 60 fish have been tagged this summer alone.

Finally, a lure retriever you'll want to use
Posted by Steve on Saturday, 07 August 2004 (02:46:52) GMT+4 (574 reads)
strikebacktackle writes "Barra, Bass, Bream, Trout and all lure fishermen know... Snags are where the fish are and the best place for sucessful lure fishing. The down side was, snags were both lure and fish losing country. Trouble was, lure retrievers were bulky, heavy, impossible to use in strong current, tangled cords, or just didn't work. Lure retrievers got a bad rap. But with StrikeBack Lure Retrievers, snags don't matter. StrikeBack is quick and easy to use, won't lose your lures, and when you do get snagged, you're back fishing in seconds in all conditions. Added bonus, it gets your snagged fish, and your lures back. "
Note: Not only will this item save money on lures you may normally have lost, it will also give you the confidents to fish even closer to the snags knowing you'll be able to retrieve your lure if used correctly.

Unfortunately for the angler, this high-tech gear also comes with a price. "
