Home > Winter > you are here: Venice Hotel Reservation Guide - Introduction

  [ Venice ]   [ Venice - Sinking Paradise ]
La Serenissima [ the Serene One ], Queen of the Adriatic and city of canals and palaces, Venice is simply unique. For long years, Venice was one of the most enduring mercantile sea powers in history. Today this influence has disappeared, leaving a town of tarnished glories, out of time and out of place, but so achingly beautiful. Italy's Venice is not recommended in high summer [ June-August ]: it's crowded, and oppressively hot and sticky. During the winter however the crowds have left [ never completely though ] and you can explore the many beautiful Italian churches, visit the grand palazzo’s or just sit in one of the majestic piazza’s in peace.

Venice Hotel area -- CANNAREGIO EST: Midway between Venice's station and Piazza San Marco. It is home to the most sublime palazzo lining Venice's Grand Canal: the Ca' d'Oro [ Golden House ].

Area Tip: - Share a gondola ride with your loved one and…and maybe an opera singer on the Grand Canal, known as the 'finest street in the world'.

Venice Hotel area -- SAN MARCO: Centre of Venice and home to the Basilica di San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale. Expect throngs of tourists [ yes, also in the winter time ] and lots of pidgeons. It's not one of the most famous areas in Venice for nothing...

Area Tip: - stand in the "drawing room of Europe" as Napolean dubbed Venice's Piazza San Marco.

Venice Hotel area -- CANNAREGIO OVEST:North and west of the train station and provides some of Venice's cheapest accommodation. This area of Venice is convenient to the station and only about a 10-minute water bus ride from the Rialto...

Area Tip: - head in the opposite direction to everyone else. Cannaregio Ovest a quieter yet equally beautiful part of Venice.
