Campsite Thoughts

I expect that there will be very few of you who will read this page now that the season has ended. This will be my last camping page until the ski season ends and the 2005 camping season gets started. For Hoodoo 2004 was our best camping season ever. No fires or draught meant that all the campgrounds stayed open and we had a record amount of campers in spite of high gasoline prices, and occasional rainy days especially in mid June and mid August. Each year the campground fees allow us to make some improvements. While most of the campgrounds around our area have had the new CXT toilets installed, our area has not gotten the USFS money that was needed. However, slowly both money from the USFS and from Hoodoo has meant some improvements. Each year you will see some of the old bathrooms disappear and new ones installed along with some other improvements. Around 7% of your camp and extra vehicle fees go toward improvement, another 8% goes toward state and county tourism taxes, and the rest goes toward maintenance and administration.
Over the last few years we have seen construction at Cougar Reservoir, Waldo Lake and a few other areas that have made some of your favorite campgrounds less than desirable. In 2005 almost all of that will finally be done, and we are preparing for another record amount of campers. In addition this fall Hoodoo has purchased two RV parks, one in McKenzie Bridge called the Patio, and one in Camp Sherman called Black Butte Resort. These two parks have added another 100 RV hookups to the 30 we have at Hoodoo. Over the winter we will add these to our campground pages to help you make reservations. We are also adding some sites at Camp Sherman to help some of you know that you will have a reserved site on the Metolius.
We will attempt to keep this webpage up and keep improving it as you make suggestions so that it is responsive to your camping needs. I am thinking that we may even add a fishing guide page to help you fishermen know what is available. As always if you have any campground questions please click on my name below my signature and I will try to answer.
See you around the campfire,
