Sheep Springs
A great way to explore the Metolius River Basin area is by horseback and Sheep Springs horsecamp is where to stay. Located five miles northwest of Camp Sherman in the beautiful Metolius Basin, there are eleven sites with 44 individual box stalls. Riders in this area should be careful of burned over trees from the 2003 B and B fire. However, we do expect most of the area to be open.
Open May 13 to September 25, 2005.*
Well with hand pump, potable water and two single vaults.
$14 per site $7 extra vehicles.
*Weather permitting

Sheep Springs Horse Camp is located about five miles northeast of Camp Sherman, near Roaring Springs. The wooded camp surrounds the top of a beautiful two-acre meadow with springs on each end.
Turn north off Highway 20 on the Metolius River/Camp Sherman turnoff. Over a stretch of about 3 miles you will pass cabins and the Camp Sherman fire station. At the four way stop, continue forward on Road 1420. This will take you past the Redmond Saddle Club. Turn left at the next crossroads onto National Forest Road 12. Make a right turn onto Road 1260 and then another right turn onto 200. Once you have reached Road 420, all the turns are marked with signs indicating the direction to Sheep Springs
You can also access Sheep Springs by turning north off highway 20 on Jack Lake Road. In about 3 miles turn left onto Road 1230. Follow road 1230 and signs to Sheep Springs. The last turn will be to the right and onto road 200, then a left into camp.
In the past reservations at Sheep Springs have been handled by Hoodoo Recreation Services. This is no longer the case. All campground reservations must now be handled by the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS). This policy decision was made at the Washington DC level and is out of the hands of Hoodoo, as well as The Forest Service District and Regional decision makers. Hoodoo continues to manage the campground under permit from the Forest Service.
Reservations for Sheep Springs are still possible, but you must use the NRRS system. Their toll-free number is 1-877-444-6777. Reservations are also available through their website at the following click
