The Editors Desk:
Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). --Tom Keogh
Avg. Customer Review:
One of my wishes coming true! I have been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD from the first day I bought a DVD player! This is by far the best Disney movie ever. It has the perfect blend of fun, adventure, romance and comedy! The songs are beautiful and the characters imaginative. Though Lion King and Beauty and the Beast both come in a close second, I don't think Disney has ever before or will ever again make a movie that is this good. Even the recent Finding Nemo didn't hold a candle to it in my eyes. You'll laugh, you'll cry and then you'll probably laugh again! Iago and the Genie are two of the greatest characters ever in any Disney movie. I love it because the characters aren't so one dimensional. Jasmine is more then just a pretty princess waiting for a man to come rescue her. She's strong willed and fiery. And Aladdin, well...he's more charismatic and well rounded then any Prince Charming ever was. This is a must for all fairy tale fans. It's a must for all Disney fans. This is a must for all who love happily ever after stories.
It's Like Humour & Romance Mixed In 1!! "Aladdin" has been an all-time favourite too millions of people around the world! The film was released into theaters in 1992 and came to video in 1993! This movie is a really great and colorful movie to add too any Disney collector's collection! Like "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin" is a musical which includes humour and romance as well (Most Disney Classics are like that too!) The story takes place in the poor town of Agrabah, where "street rat" Aladdin (Scott Weinger) and his Monkey Abu live. They are poor and must steal food to survive on the streets. Aladdin falls in love with the Sultan's daughter Jasmine (Linda Larkin) and the two eventually become friends. By royal orders, It is time for Jasmine to get married (and it must be too a prince ONLY!) She does not want to rush and wants to wait for her true love too come.Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) is the Sultan's "trustworthy" Vizier who wants to rule the world and gain the power of being a Sultan However, he needs the "magic lamp" too do this, so he gets Aladdin to get the lamp for him in the "Cave of Wonders". Aladdin finds the lamp and meets the famous and humourus "Genie of the Lamp" (Robin Williams) The Genie changes Aladdin to a prince so he can gain the love of Princess Jasmine. Jasmine and Aladdin fall in love together, but when Jafar's sidekick parrott Iago (Gilbert Gottfried) gets ahold of the lamp and Jafar rules Agrabah, it is going to take Aladdin's courage and bravery (With the help of the Genie) to defeat Jafar and save Agrabah! Back in 1992, The film became the highest-grossing animated film earning over $200 million internationally (!) The film also won Academy Awards for Best Song ("A Whole New World") and Best Original Score. That's how popular the film became! In fact, the film and characters were so popular that it came out with 2 sequels: "Return of Jafar" in 1994 and "The King Of Theives" in 1996. There was also a TV series named "Aladdin" which aired from 1993-1995. Who can forget the famous quote "Jafar! Jafar! He's Our Man, If He Can't Do It.....GREAT! This film is definetly a film that will entertain the entire family! Hopefully, it will be re-released onto video soon so the people who never had the chance to get a copy of the film are able to get one! 90 Minutes.
almost essential There are a select few of the films made by Disney that can almost be considered essential Kid fare. My personal faves are : Robin Hood, Lion King, and the great Aladdin. This is one of Disney's all time greatest moments ever. This is truly one of the best. Adults will find it amazing, kids will love it! An awesome and incredible tale of magic, wishes, coming of age, love, and temptation by absolute power. Wonderful, simply wonderful. Also was one of the first animated movies to really make use of a seamless blend of computer graphics and traditional animation styles. Perfect.
