(from Yahoo! Travel)
On the first anniversary of the Madrid train bombings, the city is not dwelling on the tragedy of the March 11 terrorist attack. Instead Madrid, along with the rest of Spain, is looking back to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the publication of Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote and forward to the possibility of hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Suggested Sites:

  • Timeout: Madrid - all you need to know about visiting Madrid, from what to see in the day to where to dance into the night.
  • IV Centenario de El Quijote - follow the adventures of Don Quixote on the 400th anniversary of the publication of the classic book.
  • Madrid 2012 - Madrid is making a major bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.
  • Museo del Prado - shhh! This is where they keep the art.
  • Real Madrid - soccer powerhouse and home of great players like Beckham, Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane, Roberto Carlos, and Raśl.
