Fishing, Crabbing, and ClamingBald Head Island is a paradise for anglers with its 4 beaches, tidal creeks and marsh flats. Frequent catches include Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Drum, Sea Trout and Flounder. The tidal creek and marsh areas are ideal for claming, crabbing and cast netting. Bait and fishing supplies can be purchased on the island. Southport, located along the Cape Fear River, offers a community park with a fishing pier. Catches include Flounder, Mullet, Drum, Blue Crabs, and Spots. Supplies and Bait may be purchased at several locations Oak Island and Ocean Isle beach have over 4 fishing piers. Surf fishing is especially good in the Fall and Spring months. All areas offer gulf stream fishing charters. |

Historic Tours and LandmarksBald Head Island is the location of "Old Baldy", the oldest lighthouse in North Carolina. The lighthouse is open year-round for touring. "Old Baldy" offers incredible views of Bald Head Island, the Atlantic Ocean, Frying Pan Shoals, Cape Fear River, Oak Island and Southport. Bald Head Island, Southport and the Cape Fear are rich in civil war and maritime history. Bald Head Island was a known hiding place for the famous pirate "Blackbeard". Some believe the undiscovered "Blackbeard Treasure" was hidden on Bald Head. Daily guided tours of Southport and Bald Head Island are available. |

Jogging, Cycling and WalkingBald Head Island is free of any motorized vehicles. Golf carts are the primary means of transportation. Miles and miles of paved trails have been carved out of the dense canopy covering Bald Head Island making it a perfect location for jogging, cycling or walking. Southport has the oldest population of live oak trees in North America. There is a waterfront walkway beginning at the waterfront park and ending at the yacht basin. Historic homes, civil war forts and museum are located throughout Southport. Oak Island and Ocean Isle Beach have miles of unspoiled beaches and designated sidewalks for walking, cycling and jogging. |

Beaches, Beaches and More BeachesThere are few places left on the east coast that have miles and miles of unspoiled beaches. Bald Head island has over 14 miles of beaches all facing a different direction. Watch the sunrise on East Beach and then the sunset on West Beach. Oak Island has over 14 miles on white sandy beaches that face south allowing visitors to view spectacular sunsets. Great seafood restaurants, shopping and entertainment line the beachfront. Ocean Isle Beach has one of the widest beaches in the area. Ocean Isle is known for its greenish-blue waters and white "sugar" sand. Family fun and amusements are centrally located. |

Golf, Croquet, TennisBald Head Island's challenging 18 hole golf course was designed by "George Cobb" and encompasses all the island's beauty. Fresh water lagoon's, scenic maritime forest and the Atlantic Ocean surround the fairways of this remarkable course. Tee times can be arranged through the Pro Shop (910) 457-7310. Golf lessons, clinics, rental clubs, driving range and putting greens are available year round. There are four tennis courts located at the Bald Head Island Club. Racquets, instruction and clinics are available. A 25 meter swimming pool is also located at the club and features a pool-side snack bar. Swimming instruction, water aerobics and other activities are offered during the summer. Challenge yourself to a game of croquet with two championship croquet greenwards. Sea Turtle Walks, Camp Baldy, Teen ActivitiesBald Head Island is home to the Bald Head Conservancy. During the spring and summer college interns arrive to patrol 14 miles of shoreline monitoring loggerhead sea turtle nesting activity. Both egg laying and egg hatching walks are available. Bald Head Island offers "Camp Baldy" for youths ages 5 to 12. Camp Baldy is conducted during the summer months and includes nature trail hikes, pool games, sea turtle sightings and scavenger hunts. Teen activities are presented in the summer months and include teen pool parties, cookouts, dances and contest. |
