Discovery Campervan's has provided a summary of the general terms and conditions for Britz and Maui, this is to inform you of as much detail prior to picking up your rental vehicle as possible. Whilst we constantly maintain and update our website, all items are subject to change by Maui and Britz and a full rental contract is sighted and signed at the branch when you pick-up your campervan.

Maui: Maui and Britz provide free airport to branch and branch to airport transfer on the day of arrival and departure for their Auckland and Christchurch branches. Queenstown branch is located at the airport. Wellington clients have to make their own way to the branch.




  • When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental. i.e. it works on calendar days not 24 hour hire.
  • The Flex rate for the entire duration of the rental is determined by the applicable flex rate on the date of pick-up, location and date of booking. Therefore prices change constantly and are only guaranteed if booked at the time viewed. The daily rate will not change within one booking.
  • Amendments made to existing bookings will be re-calculated at the Flex Rate applicable on the date of amendment. This applies to changing the Vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates or changing the pick-up or drop-off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended prior to pick-up, the extended days will be charged at the flex rate which applied at the time of the original booking.
  • Minimum rental period is 5 days. Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods.
  • Special rates are available for rentals of more than 50 days. Please email us for a quote.
  • Late pick-up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
  • Late returns will be charged on a per day basis. Failure to obain authorisation for a rental extention will result in a daily fee of NZ$150.00 in additiona to the daily rate.



One-way rentals are available between all branch locations.(email us if the system will not quote) A One-way rental fee of NZ$180.00 with Maui and NZ$220.00 with Britz is charged for rental between North and South Island (and vice versa), where pick-up is between 01 October 2004 and 31 March 2005.


With Britz an extra driver fee of NZ$3.00 per day (maximum charge NZ$150.00/rental) applies per additional driver. Note: Additional drivers fees are included in the All Inclusive component.


Queenstown Airport- All hires with pick-up from Queenstown airport will incurr an airport fee of NZ$10.00. This surcharge is payable at the depot directly upon collection of the vehicle. An airport concession fee may be charged for hires with pick-up and drop-off from other airport locations.


Britz & Maui reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, parking or tollway fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. The administration fee per fine will be NZ$60.00.


All DEPOSIT PAYMENTS paid on credit card are conducted in AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Discovery Campervans, Maui and Britz do not accept any liability for variances up or down.


The Diesel Tax Recovery Fee will be calculated and collected on return of your vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during your hire.

When a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Payments online can be made with all major credit cards and no surcharges apply. At the branches their preferred credit cards are Visa Card and Mastercard. A surcharge of 2% applies for payment by American Express for any payments at the branch directly.


A full open drivers license from your resident country, held for a least one year, is to be presented at the time of rental. If the license is not in an English format, an international drivers license must be presented WITH the foreign license.


Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. For drivers over the age of 75 a medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required.


The Kitchen Equipment comprises the following crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils is included in the daily rental rate at no extra cost.


  • 2 Wheel Drive vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads.
  • No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Nineyty Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt Cook) and North of Colville Township (Coremandel Peninsula.
  • Maui and Britz reserve the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.



Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

  • AUCKLAND BRANCH:
    Office Hours: 07h00am – 6:00pm
    Maui and Britz Rental operate a half hour Courtesy Shuttle service between the airport and the branch. The last available airport departure to the branch for pick-up within normal hours is 5:15pm during April to August and 5:45pm during September to March. Clients leaving the airport after this time will have to pick-up the following day, or apply for the after hours service.

    Pick-ups and drop-offs outside normal office hours must be made by prior arrangements. Five days notice is required, please advise at time of booking. Please refer to notes regarding delayed flights.

    PICK-UP PROCEDURES: (Last pick-up 12:00am
    International clients should report to the Maui/Britz Airport Desk (in the International Arrivals concourse)There is a courtesy bus that will take you from the Domestic Terminal to the International Terminal should you require, then proceed as follows:
    1. You will be greeted by a Company Representative to who you present your vehicle voucher. They will have a copy of your Rental Agreement for you to sign and will process your credit card details for vehicle bond, diesel tax and any applicable insurances or additional charges.
    2. You will then be introduced to and shown the workings of your Motorhome.
    3. You will be able to commence your hire.

    DROP-OFF PROCEDURE:
    Drop-off are handled at the Centra Airport Hotel, Corner Kirkbride and Ascot Roads,Mangere, Auckland.
    1. Park the vehicle at the car parks located to the right of the Richard ears Drive exit.
    2. Hand the keys in at Reception and then take the Courtesy Shuttle to the airport. The Courtesy Shuttle will depart every 30 minutes approx on the hour and half hour.
    3. Fuel charges will apply if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank.
    4. The Bond will be refunded upon completion of the vehicle being checked in by Maui rentals in a satisfactory condition.
    5. If the vehicle has been involved in an accident or has sustained damage you are required to contact Maui Rentals, fill out the accident report located in your vehicle pack, sign it and attach it to the dashboard clip upon dropping off the vehicle.
    N.B Clients are responsible for the vehicle until the next morning when it will be checked in by Maui Rentals.

    DELAYED FLIGHT:
    Definition: Flights that are due to arrive in time for clients to meet the 5:15pm during April to August and 5:45pm during September to March shuttle but are delayed.

    Where prior arrangements have not been made for a later pick-up, the client will have to pick-up the next day and seek compensation from the airline or their insurance for the lost vehicle rental day.

  • CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH:
    Office Hours: 7:00am – 6:00pm
    Maui Rental operate a half hour Courtesy Shuttle service between the airport and the branch. The last available airport departure to the branch for pick-up within normal hours is 5:45pm. Clients leaving the airport after this time will have to pick-up the following day, or apply for the after hours service.
    Pick-ups and drop-offs outside normal office hours must be made by prior arrangements. Five days notice is required, please advise at time of booking. Please refer to notes regarding delayed flights.

    PICK-UP PROCEDURES:
    Clients arrive to” a meet and greet service” by a Maui Rentals Staff member at the arrivals area of the airport. The pick-up procedure will then be carried out at the airport.
    1. You will be greeted by a Company Representative to whom you present your vehicle voucher. They will have a copy of your Rental Agreement for you to sign and will process your credit card details for vehicle Bond, and any applicable insurances or additional charges.
    2. You will then be introduced to, and shown the rental car.
    3. You will then be able to commence your hire.

    DROP-OFF PROCEDURES:
    1. Clients are to drop off the vehicle at the Christchurch branch and park it in the designated area. There is a drop box for keys.
    2. Fuel charges will apply if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank.
    3. The Bond will be refunded upon completion of the vehicle being checked in by Maui rentals in a satisfactory condition.
    4. If the vehicle has been involved in an accident or has sustained damage you are required to contact Maui Rentals, fill out the accident report located in your vehicle pack, sign it and attach it to the dashboard clip upon dropping off the vehicle.

    N.B Clients are responsible for the vehicle until the next morning when it will be checked in by Maui Rentals.

    DELAYED FLIGHT:
    Definition: Flights that are due to arrive in time for clients to meet a shuttle by 5:45pm but are delayed. If prior arrangements have not been made for a later pick-up, the client will have to pick-up the next day and seek compensation from the airline or their insurance for the lost vehicle rental day.

  • QUEENSTOWN BRANCH:
    Office Hours: Governed by airport hours.
    01 July to 30 October 8:00am – 5:00pm
    01 November to 30 June: 8:00am – 6:00pm

    Pick-ups and drop-offs outside normal office hours must be made by prior arrangement. Five days notice is required, please advise at time of booking. Please refer to the notes regarding delayed flights.

    PICK-UP PROCEDURES:
    Clients arrive to” a meet and greet service” by a Maui Rentals Staff member at the arrivals area of the airport. The pick-up procedure will then be carried out at the airport.

    2. Fuel charges will apply if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank.
    3. The Bond will be refunded upon completion of the vehicle being checked in by Maui rentals in a satisfactory condition.
    4. If the vehicle has been involved in an accident or has sustained damage you are required to contact Maui Rentals, fill out the accident report located in your vehicle pack, sign it and attach it to the dashboard clip upon dropping off the vehicle.
    N.B Clients are responsible for the vehicle until the next morning when it will be checked in by Maui Rentals.

    DELAYED FLIGHT: Definition: Flights that are due to arrive during Queenstown open hours but are delayed. If prior arrangements have not been made for a later pick-up, the client will have to pick-up the next day and seek compensation from the airline or their insurance for the lost vehicle rental day.


    Repairs up to NZ$100.00 may be effected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. For amounts over NZ$100.00, the branch will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the hirer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.


    Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Britz and Maui reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.


    Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.


    Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.


      BRITZ CANCELLATION POLICY:
    • If cancelled up to 60 days prior to pick-up No Fee
    • If cancelled from 60 to 30 days prior to pick-up 20% of Gross Rental
    • If cancelled 29 to 7 days prior to pick-up 50% of Gross Rental
    • If cancelled within 6 days prior to pick up or No-Show 100% of Gross Rental
    • If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever No refund available

      MAUI CANCELLATION POLICY:
    • If cancelled up to 21 days prior to pick-up No Fee
    • If cancelled from 21 to 7 days prior to pick-up 20% of Gross Rental
    • If cancelled 6 to 1 days prior to pick-up 50% of Gross Rental
    • If cancelled on day of pick-up or No-Show 100% of Gross Rental
    • If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever No refund available

    An amendment fee of NZ$20.00 per amendment is charged when a change to an existing booking is made. This applies but is not limited to changing the client name, the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick up dates or changing the pick up or drop off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended, the amendment fee will not apply.


    If the hirer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the Rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from the destination branch. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to NZ0.00 may apply.


    If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations entre in Auckland. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension. The additional days will be at the Standard Rate, and do not necessarily reflect the Flex Rate they may have been booked at. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of NZ$150.00 in addition to the daily rate.


    Britz rentals are subject to a charge of 2% of the total cost, levied to cover state government taxes, duties and associated cost. This is payable upon collection of the vehicle. Maui rentals this is included in rates, however will be charged for extras payable at the branch directly.

  • Tip: this charge is included in the All Inclusive component daily rate.


    Britz and Maui reserve the right to refuse any rental at their discretion.


    No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.


    Maui and Britz are able to accommodate pre-arranged pick-up and drop-offs at their Wellington agency if so required (on reqeust basis only) For all pick-ups in Wellings a chrge of NZ$50.00 will apply. For all drop-offs in Wellington a charge of NZ$50.00 will apply.


    Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for any extra's at the time of pick-up. These can be paid 30 days prior to commencement of rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit. Please contact us via email if you have any specific cheque questions


    Illustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental may occur due to substitutions made by Britz/Maui or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design made by the manufacturer.


    • Pre Purchase Fuel Option (PFO)
      This option allows you to buy your first tank of fuel upon collection of the vehicle, at a discounted rate so you don't have to refill the vehicle prior to returning to the branch. This value-added option allows you to buy your first tank of fuel at a discounted rate from the -street- selling price in the immediate vicinity of the pick-up branch. Save up to 5% on fuel. By purchasing PFO, you can also return the vehicle without having to re-fuel it. Simply request this at the time of pick-up at the Branch, no need to pre-book.
