We fish Vancouver Island, B.C.!   Enjoy Salmon & Halibut fishing adventures in
beautiful British Columbia Canada!

We invite you to join us on a professionally guided salmon fishing adventure with Last
Cast Guiding, located in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island British Columbia.  We offer
guided fishing charters to West Coast  Vancouver Island BC salmon fishing locations
such as Port Alberni, Bamfield, Ucluelet, Nootka Sound, Campbell River and Barkley
Sound.  We can customize your fishing trip.  If you are looking to do some Salmon
Fishing in Port Alberni BC, we are your choice for salmon fishing adventures.  We also
offer Wildlife Tours to Barkley Sound and the Broken Islands Marine Park.

Last Cast Guiding is owned by Pat Ahern, who has lived and fished in BC his entire life.
Pat is actively involved in the BC Sport Fishing Community, and has been a dedicated
volunteer on many salmon and steelhead conservation initiatives.  Our mission is to
share our passion for sport fishing BC with our guests, and ensure that we turn every
trip into a learning experience.  We will do our best to provide you with quality angling
instruction and equipment.  We also conduct wildlife tours of the Broken Islands during
our fishing charters.

Our charter vessel named “
Last Cast” is a 24 foot Wellcraft Coastal Walk Around fishing
machine.  She is equipped with a comfortable cuddy cabin and stand up head
(washroom with flush toilet), for your comfort.  Our boat is moored at Clutesi Haven
Marina in Port Alberni, BC for easy convenient access to the Port Alberni Canal,
Bamfield, Ucluelet, Barkley Sound and the Broken Islands.

We run both full and half day guided salmon fishing charters in the Alberni Canal.
Charters to the Bamfield, Ucluelet and Barkley Sound areas are within an easy one
hour run from our home marina in Port Alberni.  Our boat is trailerable, and we do upon
request reposition the Last Cast to strategically take advantage of salmon & halibut
fishing hot spots in Nootka Sound, Tahsis and Campbell River.

Depending upon your interests, we can either target calm inlet fishing for maximum
comfort or offshore salmon and halibut fishing for even the most hard core fisher.

Fish can be cleaned and packaged for transport anywhere in the world through our
partnership with
St. Jeans Cannery in Nanaimo BC.

Fishing Packages

Our interest is to ensure you have a great salmon fishing trip.  Please
contact us to discuss your fishing charter needs.  We will do our best
to accurately report anticipated fishing conditions to allow you to
make an informed decision around best times to book your salmon
fishing trip.

Port Alberni, BC

June 15 to July 31 Sockeye Salmon enter the Alberni Canal on their way to the
Stamp/Somas River.  Sockeye are the most tasty of all salmon, and are highly prized.
Sockeye can be finicky fish, and can at times be challenging for anglers to entice to bite,
so it helps to hire a knowledgeable guide with many years experience!  Fortunately we
have developed techniques for consistently enticing Sockeye to bite.

August 10 to September 20 Chinook Salmon enter the Alberni Canal just minutes from
our marina in Port Alberni.  Trophy Kings (Chinook) offer anglers a unique fishery for
these large monsters, with the peak of the run returning near the Labour Day Long
Weekend – just in time for the famous Port Alberni Salmon Festival and Derby which
runs the entire long weekend.  Coho Salmon enter the Alberni Canal in late August,
September and early October.

Bamfield & Ucluelet, BC

May – August we offer salmon and halibut trips.  Offshore trips for halibut are best timed
to take place in May and June.  As Chinook (Kings) move closer to the Alberni Canal in
July and August, we begin targeting the Barkley Sound area and Broken Islands.  This
area can be an exciting place to view wildlife such as Whales, Sea Lions and Eagles to
round off your fishing adventure.  The Broken Islands offer the true West Coast BC
wildlife tour & salmon fishing experience in relatively calm protection from the offshore
swells.

2005 Chinook Forecast for West Coast Vancouver Island from DFO:

"There continues to be a trend of larger returns of chinook to WCVI streams, which is an
indication that the conservation measures, coupled with positive ocean survival
conditions of the past number of years, are having the desired effect.  In 2005, most
enhanced WCVI systems are expected to have strong returns similar to 2004, resulting
in a range of fisheries for First Nations and recreational anglers.  There will also be
some directed commercial fisheries in
Barkley Sound and other terminal areas with
available surpluses."

Nootka Sound & Gold River, BC

This is a unique fishery, with thousands of Chinook and Coho returning to the Conuma
River hatchery.  This area offers unmatched salmon fishing and wildlife tours in calm
protected inlet waters which can be accessed from Gold River, B.C.  Prime time for
Chinook in Nootka Sound is from July 18 to August 15.  Accommodations are limited,
so it is best to book early to ensure we can put together your trip.  When fishing Nootka
Sound, we moor our boat in Tahsis which allows us to target several area hot spots.
We normally run a small number of our Charters into Nootka Sound in late July and
early August. Space is limited thus we recommend advance booking. We have been
fishing this area since 1992, and have plenty of local knowledge on the best locations.
Charter rates for Nootka are $800/day for 2 anglers; $850/day for 3 anglers; and
$900/day for 4 anglers.  Accommodation and meals are extra.

Campbell River, BC

Campbell River offers a haven for all species of migrating salmon.  We lived and
guided in Campbell River for 3 years before moving to the Nanoose Bay area.  As a
result, we can offer our local knowledge and experience to you if Campbell River is your
destination of choice.  We are particularly excited about offering a very unique fishing
experience in late September and the month of October for Chum Salmon.  The Chum
Salmon fishery is one of the best kept secrets of local Campbell River sport fishermen.
These fish are perhaps pound for pound stronger than any Chinook, and during the
peak run it is not uncommon to hook 20 to 60 Chum Salmon in one day!  These fish will
literally beat you up – it is a truly amazing fishery!  Charter rates for the Chum fishery are
$600/day for 2 anglers; $625/day for 3 - 4 anglers.   Accommodation and meals are
extra.
