Emergency Procedures & Post
Instructions
Security officer curricula cannot rely solely on the
conglomeration of generic video presentations and lectures.
These must be supported by a carefully constructed curriculum
that reflects what knowledge the officers needs to effectively
deal with the protected site. Methods that assure security
officer retention and confidence (e.g. interactive video and
testing) should be explored as well as assuring that those
providing the training are sufficiently experienced. Pre-service
training should be constructed to imply that no officer is to be
left alone at their site of responsibility without first having
received and been qualified (tested) as having successfully
completed his or her level of knowledge. In-service training
should be continuous and intended to:
- Motivate security officers and reduce turnover;
- Respond to incidents of security violations;
- Be responsive to changes in the operation, philosophy,
and mission of the organization;
- Continually upgrade the quality of security services.
