The town of Pleven in northern Romania received its monthly rainfall and rather more in one episode. In the 24 hours finishing at 0600GMT on Tuesday, 53mm of rain was measured, which exceeds the average rainfall total for the month of March, which is 44mm.

Bucketing down in Bolivia | Issued on: Tue Mar 29th 2005
Located in southern Bolivia, Tarija can expect 60mm monthly rainfall in March. In one event, this year's total was almost reached when 54mm of rain fell in the 24 hours which finished at 1200GMT on Tuesday.

Argentina awash | Issued on: Tue Mar 29th 2005
South of Buenos Aires in Argentina, Las Flores is a place when some abundant rain is to be expected at this time of year. A normal March brings 96mm, but without adding up the amounts for other occasions, only one event achieved this year's average when 95mm was measured in the 24 hours finishing at 1200GMT on Tuesday.

Early taste of summer warmth in Spain | Issued on: Tue Mar 29th 2005
Situated halfway down the Mediterannean coast of Spain, the city of Valencia has an average minimum temperature in March of 7 Celsius. Yet, on Monday night, the thermometer did not fall below 17.2 Celsius, which is only a degree less than the usual afternoon high at this time of year.

Chilly days arrive in New Zealand |Issued on: Tue Mar 29th 2005
Recently New Zealand has been having some warmer days than usual, yet a reminder of autumn's advance has now brought some lower temperatures. The town of Queenstown, set close to the Southern Alps, shivered a little on Tuesday when the temperature only rose to 11.7 Celsius. This compares to an average high of 19 Celsius.
