Bald Head Island, Southport, and Oak Island are part of the Brunswick Islands located in Brunswick County, North Carolina. The Brunswick Islands are the southern most area along the NC coastline and are accessible via Interstate 95, Interstate 40, Highway 17, New Hanover County International Airport (ILM), Myrtle Beach Regional Airport (MBR) and the Intracoasal Waterway.

Bald Head Island

For vacationers on Bald Head Island, you will need to travel to Southport, NC and arrive at Indigo Plantation located at the end of West 9th street in Southport. Once in Indigo Plantation, you will need to depart on the BHI ferry. The ferry leaves the mainland on the hour and departs the Island on the 1/2 hour. Southport

Southport is located at the Mouth of The Cape Fear River.

From the North: I-95 South to I-40 East. Exit Burgaw. Route 53 West to Route 421 South to US 17 to Route 133 South to Southport.

From the South: US 17 North to Route 211 South at Supply. Route 211 South to Southport

One may wish to travel via the Ft. Fisher/ Southport ferry located on US 421 (Ft. Fisher terminal) and Rt. 211 (Southport terminal). The ferry is operated by the NC Dept. of Transportation and allows autombiles, bikes and walking passengers.

Oak Island

From the North: I-95 South to I-40 East. Exit Burgaw. Route 53 West to Route 421 South to US 17 to Route 133 South to Oak Island.
