The 2005 campground season may be an interesting one considering the lack of snowfall in the mountains during the previous winter. It will have an impact on your camping in several ways. Those of you who boat during your camping, may find some reservoirs not full at all during the summer and possibly drawn down after July 4. We will try to keep you informed on this web site. Excellent lakes for you this summer will be Big Lake, Suttle Lake and Lake Billy Chinook. Those lakes are less dependant upon the snow melt on a year by year basis. Those of you who are familiar with the Hoodoo Recreation services will be interested in the changes that will be happening this year. Perhaps one of the most interesting one is that Hoodoo has been asked to take over the care of the Terwilliger Hot Springs on Cougar Reservoir. I have included a page of explanation about the springs which you can get to by clicking on the name above or on the left side of this page. It is an area that has been well known to the outdoors loving crowd for many years. The springs is a bit of the early 70s that helped shape this area of the Cascades into a draw for hippies from all over the country. Many of them got older but are still there "hanging out". Today it is a safe, but still natural place to gather. However, for those of you who are modest, you need to know that clothes and lifestyles are optional. This year we hope to be able to manage the campgrounds with more ease for you. During the fall we purchased two new RV and tent campgrounds in the McKenzie Bridge/Blue River area and in the Camp Sherman area. We now own Patio RV Park on the McKenzie River near Harbick's Store. In Camp Sherman we now own Black Butte RV and Motel Resort. Patio has about 60 RV sites with some sites right on the river. It is well set up for large RV groups with two group centers. Black Butte Resort is in the heart of the Metolius River campground area. We will use it as an information center for camping in the area. Late arrivals will be able to stop there to enquire about what is open in the area or stop in to take a shower or buy firewood or soda pop. In addition this year, if you are looking for a really large RV group site, the Hoodoo parking lot will be available for groups of 50 to 400 vehicles. Hoodoo has a campstore, bathrooms, and an abundance of parking. Hoodoo is also close to Big Lake and great hiking areas. Finally this year we have added more sites to the reservation program. This is especially true of group sites. If you have a group for RV or tent camping we have a place for you. We have group sites that range from $15 per night to $247 per night or more for really large groups. All of our group sites are available through the NRRS (see our reservation page) or for Hoodoo, Patio and Black Butte through our www.hoodoo.com page or at 541-822-3799. Sincerely, Chuck
Shepard, President of Hoodoo Recreation Services HOODOO RECREATION SERVICES manages over 70 US Forest Service campgrounds in the mid Cascade Mountains of Oregon. We manage some of the most beautiful campgrounds in the US. Oregon is a camper's paradise. We have many of these campgrounds on individual pages describing the grounds and individual sites. All sites have picnic tables and fire pits. We have graded each site with A, B, or C. These grades are relative to the sites in that particular campground only. It is meant to help you know which site you might prefer as you pull in to the campground. Driveway lengths and maximum vehicle lengths help those with RVs and trailers. The general description of the campground will tell you if it is on a body of water, but each site is described to let you know if that site is directly on the water. Water side is considered to be a higher grade, but those with small children may prefer an off water site. We hope this information helps your camping experience. You might want to print a copy of the individual camp pages to take with you. The best way to reach us is to email us by clicking our EMAIL address but you can call us at 541-822-3799.
HORSE CAMPGROUNDS also are listed in the above categories, but we have broken these out as a sub area. RV CAMPGROUNDS are new to Hoodoo in 2005. Check our RV campground page for details on making reservations for individual sites or for groups of up to 400 vehicles.
