What to expect: The Eldorado Hotel Casino was built in 1973 and expanded twice. The property is connected by skywalk to Circus Circus and Silver Legacy. With fewer rooms than its neighbors, this fashionable, family-operated establishment feels more like a boutique hotel, easily catering to couples on a weekend getaway, as well as business travelers. Amenity highlights: The quiet Eldorado lobby features marble flooring, dark-wood paneling, and stone columns. The action is never far away, however, as the hotel offers an 81,000-square-foot casino, a 580-seat showroom offering Broadway-style entertainment, and a stylish nightclub favored by locals. What to expect: Dating to 1943 when it opened as a bingo parlor, Harrah's was Reno's first casino and has expanded over the decades until it now occupies both sides of North Center Street, with a casino and guestroom tower on each side. Amenity highlights: Open during warm-weather months, a fifth-floor pool deck provides swimming and sunning opportunities. John Ascuagas Nugget

What to expect: John Ascuaga's Nugget is a family owned, family friendly resort. Son of Basque immigrants, Ascuaga built the Nugget from a roadside coffee shop that opened in 1955. His touch is noticeable in details large and small, such as spic-and-span ambience and a reception desk accessible without having to walk through the casino area.

Amenity highlights: During warm weather, sliding glass panels allow fresh air into the fifth floor, which houses the large atrium pool.
