A TV signal was first
transmitted via a Telstar satellite in July 1962. But it
was not until the early 90s that commonly available
satellite communications services started to develop
fast. At present, a few thousand satellites orbit the
Earth. In many cases, satellite communications is the
best and often also the only solution.
Satellite
communications is thought to be the cheapest solution
wherever terrestrial network is not developed enough.
Satellite communications has other advantages. They can
reach every place regardless of the lay of the land.
Installing necessary equipment and starting the
transmission does not take long – only a day, for
example. Companies sometimes choose this solution
because they take into account data transfer safety and
guaranteed transmission continuity.
Satellite
communications turns out to be useful in companies with
numerous agencies and branches, e.g. in government
offices, banks, insurance companies, petrol station
chains, shop chains, credit card and cheque
authorisation systems, device monitoring systems, or
radio and TV stations. ISPs should also find satellite
platform interesting.
I intend to build a
network of 500 VSAT satellite terminals within 4 years
from the company’s foundation (07.2004). The enterprise plan has been
prepared on the basis of my own experience of several
years’ work as a manager in satellite and Internet
companies. It contains analyses based on real sales
results in the Polish market and on the specialist
forecasts for the next few years. Next steps take into
account the development of satellite telecommunications
for business, including such services as combining
corporate networks (e.g. for banks, petrol station
chains, ATM networks, credit card authorisation points),
or multimedia picture and sound transmission. I am not
denying that I am still looking for a suitable financial
investor willing to invest into next stages of the
company’s development.
Analyses show that Poland is a huge
potential market for one-way satellite Internet access.
This might be due to the fact that as many as 30% of
Poles cannot use a traditional broadband connection
because of a poor telecommunications infrastructure.
They could be interested in satellite
telecommunications. There are currently around 2.5
million users of satellite TV, who can be interested in
the offer and would not have to face a high cost of
hardware upgrade.
According to experts, satellite
Internet access usage will increase over fivefold in the
years 2003-2008, to reach 11% market share of all
broadband connections in 2008.
World
broadband services market is forecast to reach a value
of $399bn. in 2005 (according to research ordered by
Intelsat) Basic broadband services which should count at
that time in the market are cable connections, optical
fibre connections, radio connections, and satellite
connections. $11bn will go to the last type
mentioned.
I will be glad to answer any questions
and to familiarise the interested with the business plan
of the enterprise.
Sincerely, Marcin
