Heavy rain over the St Lawrence river area in Quebec provided 42 mm in Quebec city during the 12 hours ending 1200 GMT on Sunday. The amount is just over half the 76 mm April average rainfall. Temperatures were just 2 to 4 Celsius in the locality with a 25 mph northeasterly wind.

Venezuelan showers

Tropical showers dumped 49 mm of rain on the Venezuelan city of Acarigua during the 24 hour interval ending 1200 GMT on Sunday. The amount comprises well over half the 85 mm April average rainfall.

Chilly Cyprus

Northwesterly winds from Turkey brought a cold day to Akrotiri in Cyprus on Sunday. At 1300 GMT the mercury stood at just 13 Celsius, some 9 degrees below the April average maximum temperature of 22 Celsius. Snow was reported over many hilly localities in southern Turkey.

Mongolian spring warmth

A top temperature of 16 Celsius was returned at 1200 GMT on Sunday from the southern Mongolian town of Hujirt. The April average maximum temperature is just 8 Celsius. Strong and gusty westerly winds were kicking up the dust and sand over many southern Mongolian localities as a heat low formed over the Gobi desert.

A southerly wind blowing over the southern Norwegian highlands caused a sharp rise in temperatures at Stavanger on Sunday afternoon. At 1400 GMT the mercury stood at 17 Celsius under sunny skies, some 8 degrees above the April average high of 9 degrees.
