Selecting a Space for Your Home Based Business
Are you considering a home based business, but can't imagine where in the world you'll operate from? Your house is crammed full and you don't have a bedroom to spare. Don't worry, one of the greatest things about operating a home based business is that flexibility is the rule. Look over the ideas below and just see if you can come up with a little space to spare!
Set up your home based business in the laundry room
Today's laundry rooms are often spacious and include such luxuries as windows and doors to ensure privacy. With a few added shelves, a small desk and filing cabinet, you could probably work comfortably from this space. In addition, you may have to add a phone line and/or cable line to complete the set-up.
Set up your home based business under the stairway
This tiny space has endless possibilities for the right business. If all you need is a little workspace and storage, this might be the area for you. By adding customized shelving that forms along the back wall of the alcove, you not only create a practical space, but a fashionable one as well. Next, add a desk that is suited in size, and you're set!
Set up your home based business in the basement
If you need a larger space, the basement could be the right workspace for you. The drawback to this environment is that it may take some work to get it in shape. Since most people use this area as storage, you may have to move boxes around to clear an area. Next, the temperature may be a problem, depending on the area you live in, and you may have to add an air-conditioning or heating unit to make it workable. Other than that, you'll simply have to move in rugs, furniture and make sure that you've got the connections needed for your technology.
Set up your home based business in the attic
Like the basement, you will most likely have to make some major adjustments to this space in order to get it in shape. In addition, any remodeling you plan to do would likely be more expensive in this area. Furthermore, getting your furniture and equipment up to the attic may present a challenge. Having said all of that, this could be an ideal space for the person who needs a lot of room, but doesn't have any to spare in the other areas of their home.
Set up your home based business as a movable unit
Sometimes, there truly just isn't any room to spare, and in those instances, a hideaway, or movable office may be the answer. Visit furniture or office supply stores to see the latest in moveable office furniture designs. These handy pieces contain everything you'll need: desk area, file cabinets, cork boards and access holes for technology cables. After you're finished working, simply close it up and roll it into a closet or other out-of-the-way place.
