At the end of the 19th century the Museum
Quarter was established on the spot which was previously
known as Brouwersplein. Museum Quarter, however, is
a much more fitting name for this centre of arts and
culture. Amsterdam's main museums and galleries are
all located at close proximity to each other in this
quarter.
In the most central point of this area you will find
the Museum square. Next to the Concertgebouw on this
square you will find the three largest museums; the
treasure of Holland the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum
and the Stedelijk museum. Beside expositions in de
museums, the square is an exposition place already.
The Museum Quarter also boasts some of Holland's
most upmarket shopping streets. The most exclusive
of all is P.C. Hooftstraat. Shop after shop offers
the collections of internationally renowned fashion
designers, trendy leather goods, home furnishings
and jewellery. If you are a lover of arts and antiques,
nearby Spiegel Quarter is an absolute must.
Behind this exclusive shopping street, a little piece
of nature of Amsterdam is been located, The Vondelpark.
The relaxing atmosphere in the Vondelpark is still
like in the sixties and seventies, in opposite of
the hectic city live of this dynamic city. On a sunny
day the Vondelpark is fully filled with people, like
on Queensday. Everybody come this park for relaxing
and recreation. Lying in the grass enjoying the sun
shine with a nice glass of rose wine or a cold and
refreshing glass of beer.

A radical operation
The Rijksmuseum is one of the ten principal
museums in the world. Widely acclaimed for
its collection of paintings from the Golden
Age, the Rijksmuseum has far more to offer:
it is a museum of art and history without
equal, with five different collections under
a single roof painting, sculpture
and decorative arts, drawings, prints and
photographs, Asiatic art, and Dutch history.
Since 1885, the collection has been housed
in architect Pierre Cuypers imposing
building on the Museumplein square, right
in the heart of Amsterdam. The renovation
is one of the most radical operations the
Rijksmuseum has ever had to undergo, and
there are a great many reasons why it is
necessary
