When you type a query and click the Search button, AltaVista retrieves images that contain your search words in their file names, ALT text, nearby text and/or the page metatags.
When you click on a result
When you click on an image thumbnail on an image search results page, you are taken directly to the Web page that contains that image. Usually, you should be able to see the image right away however, sometimes, you may have to scroll down the page to find it.
Features in Image results
All image results have a "More Info" page that gives more detail about that specific file. Some of the More Info pages have these links:
More media from this page:This link shows a list of other images on the same Web page.
Other pages with this file:This link shows a list of other Web pages that contain this image file. This is especially useful in the rare case that you cannot access the initial page.
Advanced Image Search
You can focus you results by making choices in these areas:
Show me:You can limit your results to Photos, Graphics or Buttons/Banners. The Photos and Graphics settings choose images based on their appearance. The Buttons/Banners setting chooses images with these popular sizes.
Color:You can specify color or black and white/grayscale.
Sources:You can search the entire Web or AltaVista's partner sites. When an image comes from an AltaVista partner, AltaVista lists the source.
