The Oak Island Police Department is
proud to serve the residents and visitors
of Oak Island. Our goal is to make sure
that we protect and serve the community.
Oak Island Police Department consists
of 24 full-time officers assigned to
three divisions: Administrative, Patrol
and Investigation Division. We operate
on a 24/7 schedule to assist all of
our residents and visitors. We patrol
approximately 9 square miles of island,
which includes some 8 miles of beaches.
Oak Island has a permanent population
of 7,300 by the 2000 census and our
tourist population swells to 35 to 40,000
during the summer season. We are committed
to serving the public through a partnership
with the community to prevent crime,
protect life and property and resolve
problems.

free tennis as well. The island is ideal

many restaurants with a variety of cuisines.

make Oak Island a popular but quiet
vacation destination, life on the Island
is a balance between the calm seclusion
of the beaches and the easy proximity

Golf
Oak Island boasts 30 golf courses within
30 minutes! Watch for Brunswick County
to become the golf capital of the coast.
Several area courses include: The Gauntlet,
The Players Course and The Members Course
all at St. James Plantation; the Freddie
Couples course; Carolina National at
Winding River Plantation; Lions Paw
and Panther Run at Ocean Ridge Plantation;
The Pearl; Oak Island Golf Course.
Boating,
Fishing, & Beaches
Boating - For both the sail or power
enthusiast, the beautiful Cape Fear
and Lockwood Folly Rivers, Intracoastal
Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean are
available for boaters.
Offshore
- Charter and private boats take you
to your prize catch, including marlin,
sailfish, dolphin, king and spanish
mackerel, wahoo, bluefish and more.
Inland
waters - Fishing, crabbing, shrimping
and clamming are abundant in tidal creeks
and along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Dining
& Shopping
Dining and Shopping can be found on
the island, Historic Waterfront Wilmington
offers dining, shopping, historic tours,
and live theater (35 minutes away) and
the bright lights of Myrtle Beach is
only 45 minutes away.
