Accessibility

The National Library has a current Disability Action Plan based on the Commonwealth Disability Strategy.

We aim to make our collections accessible to all Australians.

Our Website is designed for access by people who cannot come to the Library.

We regularly test our Website for accessibility against the W3C guidelines and all new website contracts include accessibility as a key performance measure.

A Hearing Help Card has been introduced for people who are hard of hearing. Please inform us of your requirements.

Aladdin Video Enlarger - An Aladdin Genie Pro machine is set up in the Main Reading Room. This is a desktop unit which creates a magnification system that displays images on a computer screen. Please see the staff at the Information Desk for assistance.

JAWS software reads what is displayed on the screen. This is available in the Main Reading Room, please see staff at the Information Desk for assistance.

Large computer screens and trackballs are also available in the Main Reading Room and the Newspaper/Microform Reading Room.

Larger-size magnifying lenses are available on some of our microform readers in the Newspaper/Microform Reading Room. Please ask staff to point these out.

Hand Lenses are available at each of the reading room information desks.

A cassette player is also available in the Main Reading Room . Please ask at the Information Desk.
