Tasmania Pacific Fiction Prize - People's Choice Award

 
As part of the 2005 Tasmania Pacific Fiction Prize, the State Library is once again holding a People’s Choice Award.  The six shortlisted books are available for loan through any branch of the State Library.  By reading the shortlisted books and voting for your favourite, you can go into the draw for the Voters Prize, a $100 book voucher.  Find out more about the shortlisted books and the People's Choice Award People's Choice Award

Different Readings

A contemporary interpretation of the Allport Furniture Collection

Different Readings, is a groundbreaking new exhibition which showcases reinterpretations of heritage pieces from the Allport Furniture Collection by Tasmania’s finest contemporary furniture designers. Fourteen furniture designers were invited by the State Library of Tasmania to seek inspiration for the creation of new work from the superb examples of antique furniture in the Allport collection. The resulting contemporary creations are displayed in stark contrast alongside their genteel sources of inspiration in the heritage furniture bays of the Allport Museum.

  • Furniture in Context Forum
    Saturday April 2, 11.00am - 12.30pm  -  Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts
    with David Trubridge (NZ) and Dr. Kevin Murray.  Includes launch of ArtLink's March special edition issue:  Handmade:  The new Labour.
     

  • Floor talks with curators and furniture designers
    Monday April 4 - Friday April 8, 12.30pm  -  Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts

    Monday April 4: 
    Linda Fredheim and Richard Skinner, with Frances Kay and John Smith.

    Tuesday April 5: 
    Patrick Hall and James Vaughan, with Frances Kay and John Smith.

    Wednesday April 6:
    Laura McCusker and Fin Seccombe, with Marian Jameson and Penny Smith.

    Thursday April 7: 
    Ross Straker and Bill Taylor,with Marian Jameson and Penny Smith.

    Friday April 8: 
    Peter Prasil and Brendan Sharpe, with John Smith and Marian Jameson.
