The local homebuilder association hosts the Parade of Homes and the entries are divided into price point categories and then judged on style, design, decorating, attention to detail and quality. In addition, blue ribbon awards are given for special features in each home. The judging is handled by a group of professionals in the building, marketing and design fields.

Cambridge Heights in Wilmington won three gold awards and one silver award as well as several blue ribbons for decorating, kitchen design, floor plan flow, master layout and Carolina room design. At Summerwoods in Raleigh, a silver award was received as well as blue ribbons for kitchen and floor plan design.

"Wilmington has over 100 entries in the parade every year and during the first two years of entry we were the "new out of town company" and winning was a big accomplishment," said Janet Rose, Senior Vice President at Stratland Homes in North Carolina. "There are over 200 entries in Raleigh's parade annually and winning was a big surprise for two reasons - it was our first year in the parade and we were up against all the national builders. "

Furthermore, the Countryside Estates community in Chandler, Arizona was chosen to receive the 2004 City of Chandler Architectural Award for Production Homes. Honorees represent the best architecture throughout the city. Projects were judged on design, landscaping, use of materials, site planning and relationship to surroundings. The Architectural Excellence Award committee consists of a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Architectural Review Committee, Arts Commission and three citizens. One of the citizens must be an architect, landscape architect or have other design training, experience or background.

"Chandler is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States right now and we know there are a lot of quality builders in this area. With very strict and specific requirements, to be one of the very few selected out of all the communities that started in 2003 is quite an honor, " said Jill Matteson, the marketing director of SunWest Communities in Arizona.
