Food Manufacturer

A food manufacturer used a combination of Dataputers and DatastaWin. There are seven DP300VA Dataputers networked back to one PC in the Quality office. It is from here that the manufacturing processes are monitored.

The Dataputers are used for on-line conrol, instead of merely data collection. they are used to monitor and control fill weights on jellies, peanut butter, honey and a variety of other food products. Filling rates are adjusted according to the reported trends from the Dataputers.

Medical Manufacturer

A manufacturer of packaging and medical bedpans from compressed paper. They use a Dataputer DP300VA connected to Datastat Plus shopfloor, which in turn is networked to a copy of Datastat Plus Administration software in the Quality Office.

The Dataputer is connected to a Sartorius balance which weighs the product. The weight of the product is critical because it is this that indicates the pulp content and hence determines the critical characteristics of the product (e.g water retention and strength).

Automotive Manufacturer

An Automotive Manufacturer, use eight DP3000VA's to monitor gap and flushness of new build cars. This is done using a 'gap and flushness' gage (analogue output) connected directly to a DP3000VA. This forms the portable data collecting equipment that is used on the shopfloor. Up to eighty different characteristics are analyzed on each car in various positions.

Upon completion of the daily audits, the data is uploaded into Datastat Win for further analysis.

Wire Manufacturer

A cable manufacturer used Datastat Plus Administration software in a unique manner along with three copies of Datastat Plus shopfloor.

They manufacture copper wire and copper rod by melting huge slabs of copper and drawing the products through sizing dies. Since the product is mostly hot, traditional measuring techniques cannot be used. Therefore the process variables are monitored while the product is manufactured (e.g. pot temperature, pot pressure, holding weight etc). By controlling these parameters, it is much easier to maintain a capable process giving good product. Datastat Plus achieves this by inerfacing to their mainframe PLC and interrogates and processes all the variables involved over a defined sample frequency. This is achieved by using an ODBC link via some bespoke Dataputer software.

The results of this are available on each of the shopfloor copies across network.

Tire Manufacturer

A tire manufacturer use Datastat Plus to monitor processes and to preform capability studies on new projects. They collect data using Dataputer DP3000VA's on the shopfloor, using calipers linked directly to the instrument. They measure rubber overlap after bonding and also tread widths and use interface boxes to display the results on large monitors.

Textile Manufacturer

A Textile Manufacturer is another good example of how Datastat Plus can interface with different types of equipment. They manufacture threads for the textile industry and need to measure strength and elongation of product. They do this using a Tensorapid testing machine which is controlled by a computer. Datastat plus interrogates the results of the computer and puts them directly into it's Database via the bespoke Dataputer interfacing software.

Automotive Supplier

A traditional engineering application where the supplier is pressing panels for the automotive market. They measure the completed product using a Johannson Co-ordinate Measuring Machine at many different points. Using Datastat Plus, the data is imported into the database and the product analysed.

This is a good example of how Datastat Plus can import and process data from other sources.

Medical Manufacturer

A medical manufacturer of syringes use a combination of Dataputers and Datastat software to monitor the strength of their product.

The Dataputer DP3000VA's are networked across the shopfloor and linked back to the PC in a QA office. They syringes are tested to destruction by pulling the needle away from it's plastic housing and the force required is displayed on a Mecmesin AFG force gage. The Mecmesin gages are interfaced with the Dataputers and the data is collected and uploaded to the QA PC automatically after every subgroup. Therefore real-time SPC analysis is available form any PC running Datastat software.

Automotive Supplier

An automotive supplier that manufacture a range of moulded components, use Dataputer DP3000VA;s and Datastat Plus to analyse physical dimensions.

Digital dial indicators are connected to Dataputers via multiplexers, which measure circular fuel pipe dimensions. The maths formula function within the Dataputer is used to full effect to establish the concentricity of the product.

Data is subsequently uploaded to Datastat Plus for analysis.

Steel Industry Supplier

A steel industry supplier produces flow gates form compressed carbon for use in steel mills. The dimensions of each plage are critical to operation and safety. They use special fixtures with dial gages and vernier calipers interfaced to the Dataputer DP3000VA to capture data. This is done using a series of complex math formulas in the Dataputers to evaluate parrallelism and skewness.

The data is subsequently uploaded to Datastat Plus for further analysis.

Automotive Supplier

An automotive supplier of magnets for the automotive market use Dataputers and Datastat Plus SPC software networked. They have three shopfloor versions and one administrative version of the software.

Magnet field strength is measured using a Gaussmeter and the analogue output is captured using a DP3000VA. Other characteristics measured are physical dimensions such as width and length, and a micrometer is used with the Dataputer to capture the data.

Data is uploaded to Datastat Plus and the results are used to control the process.

Telecommunications Supplier

A telecommunications Supplier of small connectors in moulded housings for the mobile phone industry have one administration copy of Datastat Plus and four shopfloor versions.

Data is captured using Mecmesisn force gages, calipers and micrometers. All the data is entered directly into the SPC software, either directly into the serial port of the PC or via a PC multiplexer to extend the number of inputs.

Therefore Datastat Plus is used as an SPC workstation for direct capture and analyzing of data.
