Mini guide to Knock Airport
Knock International Airport is the only international airport serving the EU designated Border, Midland and Western regions of Ireland and links the west and northwest of Ireland with the UK and many European and intercontinental destinations. The towns of the River Shannon, Sligo and Galway all lie within an hour’s driving distance of the airport. Approximately 250,000 passengers move through Knock Airport annually.
There is only one passenger terminal, with ten check-in desks, two gates and one baggage claim belt. Airlines serving Knock Airport are: Aer Arann, British Airways, Deutsche BA, Lufthansa, MyTravel, Ryanair, Swiss WorldCargo, Transaer, bmi baby and bmi regional.
Knock is well-equipped with passenger amenities. There is a public communications kiosk in the arrivals area of the terminal which includes internet access and coin/card telephones. There is an exchange bureau, and a Bank of Ireland cash dispenser (Euros only) is situated on the ground floor in the arrivals hall. The Knock Shrine Office is located on the ground floor and offers information on Knock Marian Shrine and pilgrimages. The ticket desk is located near the check-in area.
There is a cosy restaurant/bar located on the ground floor. On the first floor, Knock Airport restaurant serves both food and drinks, including a full bar selection, and has excellent views of the runway. There is also a small bar in the departures area, as well as a VIP lounge. A children’s play area is located in the departures area beside the bar and restaurant. The airport gift shop is located on the ground floor, opposite the bar. Duty-free shopping is available for passengers travelling to non-EU destinations. The shopping area includes a pharmacy.
Knock Airport is situated 32kms east of Castlebar and 16kms northeast of Knock village. Taxis are readily available from outside the terminal building and there is a shuttle bus service which is linked to a more comprehensive bus network between Knock Airport and Charlestown. Parking at the airport is cheap, accessible and plentiful, with 1,150 spaces available. The Information desk is located near the entrance, beside the arrivals area.
