Division of Laboratory Animal Resources

Mission Statement

The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) is charged with providing laboratory animal care services and assuring humane treatment of all animals used for teaching and research at ETSU. These services include procurement of animals and their maintenance under conditions that are appropriate for the conduct of experimentation and meet federal, state, and local regulations and DHHS guidelines. The well trained and dedicated DLAR staff act as a central resource for the facilitation of experimental protocols requiring the use of live animals including expertise in technical procedures employed within the various species utilized. The purpose of the DLAR is to provide complete animal care facilities at a high technical level of competence and as economically efficient as possible.

The primary aim of personnel in the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources is the continual upgrading of the research and teaching programs at East Tennessee State University through proper care and use of laboratory animals. The DLAR encourages comments regarding improvement of services provided by this department.
