Tsunami hits tourism
SINGAPORE The Asia-Pacific region could be facing a loss of (b) billions of tourist dollars this year due to the tsunami. Visa International says a survey it commissioned finds that nine percent of travelers planning to go to Asia might change their plans.Visa says the region's tourism industry is worth 50 (b) billion dollars a year and three (b) billion dollars are at risk.The study says 30 percent of people committed to travel in Asia said there are some countries "they would not consider as a result of the tsunami."Those countries include Indonesia, Thailand, the Maldives (MAHL'-dyvz) and Sri Lanka.A December earthquake triggered giant waves across the region, killing tens of thousands of people.
