Air Fares
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

DALLAS With prices for jet fuel rising, most major U-S airlines have now lined up behind the third fare increase since late February.

That means passengers are paying up to 50 dollars more per round-trip than they would have paid for the same seat a month ago.

Continental Airlines launched the most recent fare hike on Friday, raising its domestic round-trip prices by ten dollars.

Over the weekend, the increase was more or less matched by American Airlines, United, Delta, Northwest and U-S Airways.

But the big carriers avoided raising fares on some routes where they compete directly with low-cost airlines such as Southwest and JetBlue Airways.

On March eleventh, Southwest imposed it own fare increase of two-to-six dollars per round trip.
